Nike doesn't eat veggies. I purchased some freeze dried chop from Texas Natural Freeze Dried. It's not cheap and I probably wasted a third of it experimenting but I think I found the formula for Nike

What seems to work is taking about a half to two thirds of a tablespoon of the finely chopped chop and mixing it with apple juice to hydrate it. I tried serving it dry, Hydrated with water, then coconut water, then red palm oil but it was the apple juice that seems to have done the trick. I also heat in in the microwave for 10 seconds. Here's the results....5 days in a row now. I leave it out all day and she comes back to it.

I would like to find a healthier juice, I am using some 100% juice, no added sugar but I'd like to find something with absolutely no additives to try....any suggestions?

Yay! It’s nice when you find something that works :). What about just trying things like sour cherry juice (supposed to have some health benefits), cranberry juice, etc to give her some flavour variety - I know some of these come in a relatively “pure” form without additives.

She ate it all today. I hope this continues as I'd like to make this a big part of her diet.

So Nike continues to eat her chop served as either breakfast or dinner. Tomorrow I'm going to try to hydrate it with plain water now that she's readily eating it.

Cost? I'm giving her about 3/4 tablespoon (dry) per feeding which comes out to 40 feedings/bag, when purchasing 2 large bags (4 cups/bag) including shipping ($50 total for 2 bags shipped). So my cost will be about $20/month. Obviously, bigger bird, bigger cost.

I never made chop but I have to believe that there is less waste going with the freeze dried and the un-opened shelf life is like 25 years so you can reduce your cost by purchasing a larger order and maximizing your shipping costs.

Very cool update indeed Bill! I haven't given up and the freeze-dried stuff yet. I do mix it in with "fresh" chop I have and it does get sampled by Amy..not so much from BB. I've also served it dry, right from the bag,and have seen Amy noshing on that also

I think tomorrows brunch will be strictly freeze-dried,just to see what type of stink-eye I get ;)

So today she ate the chop hydrated with just water which is good news to me. I will still go out and find a healthy organic juice to enhance the taste but at least now I know that I don't have to run out to get some when I don't have any.

honestly, from what I read, hydrated freeze dried food retains about 95%+ of it's nourishment value so in my mind I won't make fresh unless I really retire and get very bored ;)

I guess it just takes time to accept the chop Bill.. I have found that Amy is eating more of it too. I just may order another bag :)

Great to hear about Amy not wasting your money...this time ;). Since this is the only chop Nike gets and I'm feeding a portion daily, I may just order as many bags as I can for the $10 shipping. Wish it was cheaper but I'd bet 30-40 days of chop would cost as much, and with this there is little to no waste and nothing to go bad.

I think it took about 10 days. I received an email when I placed the order and one when it shipped. It took a while to ship Amyblurfront's as well, it all depends on where she is in her purchasing/chopping/freeze drying/packaging process. she is a one person show.

You can message her here. https://www.facebook.com/texasnatural/

It really must depend on where you fall in her manufacturing process because I ordered 3 bags yesterday and received the shipping notice today.

Ok so I didn’t think Nike could be any cuter. But Nike with chop-beak? Holy cow.
