pionus blue head named Marty
i just got a pionus parrot blue head who is 4 all hes ever had his whole life is pellets. his old owner wasnt home alot. :\ anyways he seems to like fruit more then veggies so to get him to eat the veggies he needs i did this:

1 bowl, 1 large strawberry, cut up celery in small pieces, shredded pieces of carrots, 7 blue berries, cut up mixed greens (any with nutrients in it) in small pieces, 5 raspberries, 3 pieces of cut up melon, cut up broccoli pieces

you can use any fruits and veggies this is just what my grandma bought for my little guy :)

add all ingredients after washed and cut into small pieces into a bowl. i used a small spoon and i squished the fruit for the juices and mashed them up and mixed them with the veggies. i call it birdy mush :)

my little marty loves this use an ice cube tray and put some in the tray to use for later so you dont waste to much (my birdie is pretty wasteful) take the cube out 1 hour before you serve and put it on a plate. marty was pretty picky about what he ate and would pick things out he didnt wanna try and throw it on the ground now everythings mixed together. dont give to much birdie mush to your bird at first it might be overwhelming wait until the bird is used to a small amount and then work your way up.

i know this was lengthy im sorry

hope this helped!! :green:

Thanks for the suggestion. I am have a conure in a similar situation who is slowly getting into veggies. So far Charlie likes red/yellow/orange peppers, sometime peas and corn. Will destroy broccoli. I might try that. She is only allowed to have berries and only twice per week but I might try that in the mix a few times and see if the love of veggies takes off!

You can also cook the veggies and then mash it fine, mix it with a little bit of water so that it is like porridge. All birds (as far as I know) love the consistency of porridge and therefore devour the veggies without even knowing that its actually good for them. You can add a little bit of cinnamon for sweetness on occasion.

As we speak, our GCC is cleaning out her bowl that WAS filled with raspberry, blueberry, and broccoli mash! Thank you, Coral. You are a genius!

That would have been a great idea for my BCC who would not eat orange veggies. I might try this with Merlin, who I am having some trouble getting to eat carrots. Here I was just telling the vet Friday that she was taking out her carrots and shoving them under the grate, but eating the other veggies. Then that night she ate a carrot. Last night she ate part of a carrot piece. So maybe she is going to start eating them now, we'll see.

I also have a BHPi :) He's almost 6 and was only fed pellets and cheese :( I got him to eat veggies by using his toys! I'd stick a piece of cut kale, some herbs, celery, anything i could get to stay on and through his toys! He'd tear at them to get them off and eat some in the process :) He loves birdie bread with veggies in it now too :) I'll have to try the birdie mash and see if he'll take to that too! Thanks for the recipe! I'll have to work it out with my conure too!

I am doing the same thing basically, hiding veggies in fruit. But instead I am making smoothies, with fresh produce, ice and yogurt. So I get to eat it and so does my conure :) She loves it!
