Cairo the Ekkie!
Basically the title question.

I've been going to an organic bulkfood store to liven up Cairo's base chop. I just noticed they had puffed buckwheat and puffed brown rice. Now, currently I don't really give Cairo much in the way of grains. Work has been crazy and there's really no price difference between buying home dinner and making dinner, so it's just easier timewise to order home dinner, which means no brown rice for Cairo for a while now. I feel bad because I also have quinoa sitting in a bag, but no time to make for him.

TL;DR
Would this be a healthy way to add grains to his diet? Or does the process of puffing them eliminate any health benefits?

Winston 屁撚, the Eclectus. 屁撚 (pi-nian) came from Pinion (Psalms 64, meaning flight feather, typifying God's soaring power.)
I read on Facebook page that raw grains are save for them, and Winston LOVES his grains that way. He actually gave me a "wth is this" eye when I shared a tiny portion of cooked white rice with him.

Can you wash the brown rice and just give him raw? Is cooked better than raw?

Dry Rice as a group is problematic as it grows in sizes when exposed to moisture... This 'can' result in the rice expanding in the crop and gut and all the possible problems such an event would cause.

I am 71, married and fairly private. I have PM privileges but prefer the phone. Printed messages, are so limited. jh
I too, have had it explained to me, raw grains swell when ingested uncooked. ALWAYS, cook grains. jh
PS: "PUFFED" is cooked. jh

Good to know. We only give him a little at a time, so it hopfully does not impact him much. He did dive bomb into our rice pot like a fishing bird and took bites from it though. Thank God it was not on.
