3 more sleeps until i have to go away, so i am getting everything ready!

Tomorrow i will put fresh branches in his cage, and then on sunday i will put the toys in!!

Obviously they won't all fit, especially because i want to keep the lower branch open so Fargo can spread his wings..
However, hopefully all this will keep him occupied! :p

These are just the new wood toys, java perch with some toys added to it, and then his metal foraging cage!

He already has all his foraging toys in his cage, so I will take them out on Saturday and re-arrange them! He hasssss, 7 acrylic foraging toys, so as long as mum can fill them up, he will have plenty of foraging puzzles!

Plus his acrylic rainstick which is his favourite to bang and be loud, so I am sure the family will appreciate that whilst I am gone ;)

Oh, and he has his favourite foods all ready to go! Mum just has to cook up his precooked veges, a bit of sweet potato and pumpkin, and mash it all together and he will eat it right up!
And then his pellets which he loves.. and then during the day she can just give him some fruits/nuts and some birdy muffins!

I am hoping with all his favourite foods he should have no problems eating his meals! Fingers crossed haha

Hahahaha it's ok, we can all agree he is a spoilt brat, just kidding ;)

I am leaving 4am monday morning and flying home about 9pm wednesday night! Not a very long time, but it still is going to make me worry :(

Awww first time leaving him will be the hardest for you:( First time we left Kiwi with my parents, I came with his food, a BUNCH of toys, cage cover ect... and worried the whole time he would forget us or hate us forever... By the last time they were able to watch him before we moved, he got a couple favorite toys and ate whatever their birds were eating (he's not TOO picky) lol. Oh, and it was my mom who would worry when he came over as she was not 'accustomed' to a bird having a daily habit of taking a bath in his water dish and getting the tile floor all wet lol;) Hope you have a good trip!

I hope you have a good trip Tab. Looks like Fargo will be just fine :). I think you'll worry more than he will. Besides, your parents will still be home right?

Haha April! :) How did Kiwi react when you came home? Was he grumpy? I have left Fargo from 5am till 6pm no problem, he doesn't mind being alone.. Just the 2 nights has me worried, and obviously he won't get much fly time like usual!

Thank you Julie! Mum has taken the week off work so she can be home with Fargo and the K's :p

Mum is on a business trip at the moment and just emailed me and said-

I will send you daily update photos. And by Wednesday Fargo will either love me or have killed me.

Hahahah :D

No one in the family is a bird person, hence just worried the most about him, but i will have the macaw breeders number and the avian vets number printed out in case anything happens! ;)

The first time we left Kiwi, he smothered my husband with kisses and appeared to have genuinely missed him/be thrilled to see him, then he turned around and hissed at me before proceeding to bite me in the lip:mad: Subsequent times, he was just a little moody for a day or so and "acted out" by deliberately flinging food or doing his flashy aggression dance. But I bet Fargo will be more a "smother with kisses" bird towards you:D I've heard macaws are a lot more lovey-dovey than zons are and we ALL KNOW Fargo is just a big bundle of feathery love;)

Hahaha! Oh gosh :09: How dare you leave him ;)

Hopefully! When i left him for a night and day last year, he was incrediblyyyy happy to see me, very sweet and clingy..

Who knows, he may have decided to ditch me and bond to mum instead
He was being cute today like usual!

Chopped down some nice branches today! All cleaned and dried ready to put in his cage tomorrow.. I hate branch re-arranging days.. Takes forever trying to hold branches and get them in the right position! If only Fargo could help haha

You must be both nervous and excited at the same time, Tab. :)

WOW, I LOVE how you've prepared all the toys, branches and foods for Mr. Fargo. :D

Time will fly by for you, and he will be so happy to see you. Everything will work out fine, you'll see.

Tab, I can't think of anything else you could possibly do to make your absence easier for Fargo. I know it's pointless to tell you not to worry, so I'll just say, have a safe trip and please try not to worry too much.

Fargo may be spoiled/lucky but he is also very well adjusted and scary smart, I expect he will be fine with his new toys, branches, favorite food, and your Mom. And I'm guessing he will welcome you home with open wings and kisses.

Don't worry, Robin. Fargo is going to be just fine, my friend. By the time he works his way out from under that mound of toys you've gotten for him, you will already have been back from your trip for a few hours! Lol!

In fact, YOU'RE the one I'm worried about! Toys could be a problem, (though you are a sci-fi geek, so maybe not so much! Hahaha) but we need to send some tasty treats with you at the very least, to entice you to eat without Fargo! :p

I leave my fids 4 days a month during the summer so I can vacation with my family. They do great! The first time is always the hardest. Once they know you are coming back they do all the better then next time, then the next and so on.

You did a great job with the toys to keep him busy. I always load my fids up with lots of toys before I go and come back to a huge pile on the bottom of the cage from all they've destroyed while I was gone. A sure sign they were kept busy. ;)

Good luck I am sure Fargo will do great! He has a great mama who is always prepared!

Hahaha more nervous than excited.. I don't really want to go :31:

No doubt I will cry at the airport like I did 2 years ago, and I only had Klaatu at that point!!! :54: Poor Kyros is going to be confused, each night he comes running and neighing for his yummy dinner.. :09:

I will give you updates whilst I am there, we have free internet on campus, so at night time I will just be sitting in my room

Haha thank you!!! :) It all crept up very quickly!

That is what I am hoping, he seems to be well adjusted, so as long as mum can keep an eye on him, he will be ok, just a bit tense from not being able to fly alot!

Uh, the campus has meals that we had to pay for with booking a room... I am sure I will hate everything they serve.. So yes, maybe I won't eat for a few days ;)

I will have my laptop and tablet, so I will just put some movies and tv shows to watch, and then I can still have my sci-fi fix each night ;)

Ohhh really? How did they react the first time ?

I have to go away again next term, for two different res schools.. That will be in about March !

Haha I am hoping mum will be able to take the cage tray out and put fresh newspaper down each day, and take any toys that have dropped so they don't get icky! :p

HAHA his mumma is probably too prepared!! I am one of those people that organise everything with lists and notes everywhere.. :09:

I can tell the first time they are just REALLY happy to see me. They always are, but just more so the first time. I know Fargo will be fine. Try not to worry. It will get easier for you to each time you go away, too. ;)

Haha i don't think it will ever be easier!!!!

I had a big day! Got his cage all done, took about 3 hours haha

The pictures aren't very good, they make it look bad.. But it looks nice in real life!

I have each branch angled and positioned so there "should" be no way he can go to the toilet on them.. so hopefully everything stays clean!

We have 2 thick branches with lots of bark, and his favourite nuts to destroy on a big ropey bridge type thing!

Floor around the cage was superrr dirty, hadn't cleaned it for the pics, and the cage was still drying after its big wash down haha

I then put the java perch in, and wrapped a section of a branch with a soft fleece because Fargo sleeps on a fleece perch, he just prefers the softer material, so he can rest on that because there is no way he can get caught in that material anyway.

I also put his seagrass mat at the back because he likes to rock and swing on it, so he can sit on it whilst he chews the nuts and pods!

Just a random one where he decided to hold my thumb hahaha

Then i started adding his acrylic foraging toys, i put them all at the front section so mum can fill them easily!

and lastly, what we have so far!

Tomorrow afternoon the toys will be added and i will take more pictures because it will look alot prettier then hahaha

But he seems to like the set up, he has been sitting in it most of the day even though the door was open!

Ok, all the toys are in!

Nice and full except for the bottom branch which he can spread his wings..

Tried to keep everything around the outsides so he can move about!

and i will have you know i have only cried 3 times today! ;) hahahaha

Mum played with Fargo this afternoon, got him out of his cage, played on the floor, he loves her, but messes with her and acts like a nutter..

But she thinks she will be able to take him out and play.. She said she will go in with him each hour and do whatever needs to be done- play/feed..

:(
