Ok so I've placed a large mirror behind Marley's cage after seeing he was obsessed with looking at himself lol and made a couple of new noises.

since putting it behind his cage he sits ontop of his cage and stares into it for hours without moving and sometimes trying to bite/lick his reflection.. is this normal behaviour or is he going to need to be taken to an asylum soon??

I would remove the mirror-- he could become aggressive towards "the other bird", he could bite and chip off the mirror, random reflections in the mirror could scare him and/or cause stress.... IMHO mirrors and birds don't mix.

Some birds really enjoy mirrors. My dad's cockatoo has a (small) one behind his cage (out of his reach) which he enjoys "talking" to the other bird. Kiwi used to have a mirror toy for birds right in his cage that he enjoyed but his stupid human took it out to clean and accidentally stomped it:54: I agree with getwozzy that you should remove the mirror if he shows signs of aggression OR unhealthy obsession, but if he likes it and it makes a positive impact in his mood and he still does other things, mirrors aren't inherently bad. This is the one Kiwi had- [ame=http://www.amazon.com/JW-Pet-Company-Activitoys-Mirrors/dp/B0010Q74E8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1425315208&sr=8-2&keywords=parrot+mirror]Amazon.com : JW Pet Company Activitoys Hall of Mirrors Bird Toy : Parakeet Toys : Pet Supplies[/ame] He would stick his whole head in it and make happy squeals:D

My cocktails I had jayjay loved his mirror. But Lilo doesn't care one way or another. Sonic on the other hand hates mirrors. I don't recommend mirrors to any bird because like getwozzy said, he could chip off a piece of mirror. :\

In the morning I have Hahnzels table stand in front of the bathroom mirror and first thing she checks herself out, but then ignores it. I catch her looking at herself in the chrome hand towel ring too. But she's always stable around them

Play it by ear... keep in mind he probably never seen a mirror before and to bump his beak against the mirror is just to make sure he/she is not in the middle of a Mexican stand off...They taste the mirror, not always an aggressive nature. They don't know at first that it's their reflection, they take it as another bird and could take it as a threat.

I had to slowly introduce mine to mirrors when they were young as we have a lot of mirrors in the house. Mine are pretty used to mirrors now.

My Grey when looking in the mirror goes whooo hooo, and I'll say " show him your wings" and he'll lift up his wings and go whooo hoooo.

My Zon's make this trilling noise when looking in the mirror. My senni wants to kill the bird in the mirror.....lol.

copy the tiny url below and paste in a new tab to see why i left, it will take you to a text image
today i put my green cheeks cage on my dressing table in my room because i wanted to lie down for a bit (he hates being away from me so i sat the cage in there to keep him off my head lol) he jumped on top of his cage and started doing this strange slow motion-like dance and flareing his feathers.. then began bobbing his head once every 3 seconds. he was also running side to side "chasing" his reflection so i assumed he was confused. i covered the mirror with a towel and he was fine after that. seems to me they cause behaivour problems, he has a very small mirror spinning toy in his cage he plays with sometimes and doesnt seem to care about the reflection at all though...

 Well, Mr. Marley is obviously NOT the type of bird to be trusted around a mirror! Good thing your wife was home to make sure he didn't get hurt.

Tentative captions:

"Tile is just so unforgiving."

"So, you guys gonna clean this up or what?"

"Is the 7 years based on fragments, or the mirror as a whole?"

"This is just like Evil Dead! Now a bunch of little Marleys are gonna jump out and come after me!"

"This makes the room look bigger. You're welcome."

"He started it!"

My Birds love mirrors....

They sing " I'm too sexy for my cage...too sexy for my cage.....I'm too sexy.."

Then my Senni is like " Na na na na na na na....I'm gonna start a fight" when looking in the mirror.....lol
