Anyone know where I can buy some plexiglass / hard clear plastic foraging toys? Lincoln will do just about anything to get a nut so it's a perfect time to get him heavily into foraging but he seems to give up easily if he can't actually see the treat even if he's successfully gotten a treat from it before or watched me put the treats in.

Also anyone know any methods to keeping a beak short? Lincoln's beak seems to grow really fast and I did take him to the vet and there were no signs of a fatty liver even when blood work was done.

start looking for local bird stores or find you a aviary to get his beak trimmed got to be less then going to a vet for grooming every time you need it.

Yeah there's an avian store around here that charged 20$ for nail, beak, and wing trims all in one go for ekkies which is a pretty good deal though I never plan to have Lincoln's wings trimmed unless for his own safety.

20 bucks 4 times a year if needed ain't so bad.
the birds I bought as babies get free grooming for their lives. so they will go in the others I pay for. I also try and keep both hard and soft wood for them to tear up and I'm hoping they will take care of their own beaks. Sammy seems to had him a year now and his is the same as when we brought him home. I would bet last year I threw out 200 lbs of wood chips. However Maxx tears up no wood YET really kinda weird he seems to like his stuff and does not tear up much.

as for nails I have one of these on the inside of all cage doors where the birds come to hang out to get out seems to cut them down some I'm thinking 6 months between trips with Maxx to get his cut. they will also groom their own beaks on these after they figure it out.

Owlet, I have a plexiglas foraging toy I will give you, as Salty shows no interest in it. Some one on here gave it to me, so I may as well pass it on to you and Lincoln. PM me your address and I'll shoot it over to you. It is a hanging toy with 4 drawers that have knobs on them, and you put treats in each draw. I hope Lincoln enjoys it.

Lincoln hasn't shown much interest in toys that don't have treats shoved in them. He's not much of a chewer unfortunately but he is very curious and smart and loves pecans and almonds so I believe foraging toys would be ideal for him. Too bad they're not as easy to make yourself without special tools.

PMed you, thank you so much :)

I also have a clear toy you can have. It's the Caitec foraging wheel. It's too big for my bitty bird. PM if interested.

Sassibird, got the toy safe and sound! Lincoln was very curious about it as I was unpacking and once I started filling it with his favorite treats he got a little too excited and bit my thumb, oops. He's learning it very quickly though! I'll try to upload some pictures soon c:
