Step one: make it seem like it's not theirs to tear up
Step two: success

Bought some supplies to make toys for Lincoln and I haven't gotten them out of the packaging and he's already trying to tear it up

I wish.

If I bring anything new to Perjo that is larger than a pine nut she examines it for hours, days, weeks before accepting it or playing with it.

She still takes issue with the color of my boxers sometimes, I'll go to open up her cage and let her out and she puffs up and lowers her head and I'm like what ?

So finicky and particular.

Same here, though Salty is so un-picky. I almost never see him scared of a new toy or perch or anything. just once or twice. Toys , I hang up and he is all over it even as I am trying to hang it.

Nigel is normally fearful of new things in his cage but recently has begun to show some bravery. His new toy, placed in his cage Sunday, caused him to refrain from coming out all day as it was deemed too near the open door. Later in the evening he came out and by bedtime was sleeping on his perch that was not three inches from the new toy.

I played with the toy beforehand while he watched, who knows? Maybe that helped?

For Jojo, new toys are best accepted if already on her play stand when she first comes out of her cage. If that doesn't work then finding a way to somehow attach a peanut, craft paper or newspaper strips, or something made from dried vines (vine rings or balls, etc) will usually do the trick.
