I just got a coconut from the grocery store and think Jack would enjoy the shell to play with (he tried the meat-not impressed).

Does anyone have ideas for toys other than just drilling a hole in it and hanging it on the cage? Also, is anything sprayed on the outer shell that might make it toxic?

I don't know if anything is "sprayed" on coconuts or not, but as long as you clean it very well it should be fine, just like any fresh fruit/veggies.

As far as toys go, I've seen the shells cut into pieces and strung together with pieces of wood as something for them to chew on (they sell these at Petco)...My Green Cheek has one in his cage as his "treat bowl", so all of his treats go in the coconut, and he now knows the phrase "It's in your coconut!" when he's bugging me for a piece of something, lol...And he actually does chew on the bowl, so they would probably make good chew-toys for them to rip apart.
