As the title says, I'm looking for some VOC free paint, probably primer too. Doesn't need to be fancy, just durable. My plan is to paint the base of the rolling stand I'm going to build.

Does Canadian Tire or Home Hardware carry any of these types of paint?

You are going to want a 0 VOC, zinc-free, lead-free and chromate-free paint...Consider looking for products that conform to CDPH 01350 and/or have a HPD ( Health Product Declaration) listed..
Based on Google results, it looks like everything is pointing to this ECOS gloss variety (they also sell a primer), BUT, they are still saying that you don't want to paint around your bird and then wait for 2 weeks after paining before allowing your bird to interact with the product. So basically, you will want to paint outside or something and then let it dry/cure far from the bird (just to be safe).

I have never used ECOS paint and I am not sure about the lead/chromate/zinc, but it's not overtly listed on the label. It is VERY NICE that they list all of their ingredients (2nd link below). They do claim that their product is safe for birds, so you might look into it. I am guessing you would have to order online...but I could be wrong.

Here is some more info:

I've been reading about the ECOS paints. Haven't seen anyone who sells them here though.

I'm not worried about bird exposure while the pain dries, as this will be a garage project until it's done.

The issue is going to be whether the bird chews on it...they can't help but ingest bits of it if they touch it with their tongues.

Maybe try Benjamin Moore or Lowes? I'm in Alberta and our CT doesn't have much of a selection of paint.

True. The wood is fine, and leaving it bare is an option, but I was thinking paint would make it easier to clean.

There's a Lowes around the corner, I'll stop in next time I'm out. The CT's here all carry paint, but Debbie Travis is kinda lacking :)

Depending on what the base looks like, would it be possible to add a piece of linoleum or plastic floor runner to the top of the base for easier cleaning?

I could. I haven't built it yet, so anything is open. Great idea. Thanks!
