After Archieā€™s leg got hung up in the chain last week, Iā€™m a paranoid nut. I just got him this, and putting the chain danger aside (Iā€™ll monitor the length), is this okay?

Itā€™s large, but someone posted an experience with his/her smaller bird getting its toenail caught up in the rope, and this uses rope.

See photo below, because Iā€™m too stupid to figure out how to post it in a better way.

The rope will get more exposed when he starts removing wood. It may pose a danger if your guy is into chewing on ropes. We have a few that use similar ropes but a) My wife is home 24/7 and b) Salty is not a rope chewer. Look anything that is not basically a stick might cause a problem. But you need to monitor parrots, like a small toddler.

His toenail got stuck in the rope. Luckily, I didnā€™t secure/screw the hanger piece closed, so I was able to quickly lift it up (boy, did he go at me!) and lower him to the bottom of the cage. And of course, very luckily, I was right there.

Iā€™m going to find a diameter of aquarium or other type tubing and cover anything that has chains on it, to eliminate toes getting caught or twisted around legs. And no more rope at all.

Do you think that insulated, solid copper electrical wire is safe? If I watch that he isnā€™t chewing the insulation?

We use really heavy gauge copper wire with red insulation to susspend Saltys catch all under his boing (see picture below). He does not chew on it so its safe. He kinda slides down it to walk around on the grating and edge.

Back to the drawing board:

I re-rigged the above mentioned toy with that wire, and used big nuts top and bottom to keep the stuff all together.

He went right for the nuts, and started untwisting the wire and stripping the insulation off.

What if I stripped the insulation off? Is the copper harmful?
