So... Bleu has started screaming... and I have NO idea why? He has also become very aggressive... He'll still let me pet his head but that's it and when he's had enough, I better have quick reflexes! He's never acted like this before and nothing has changed in the house :( I don't know what's going on? Maybe he's become more comfortable so is being louder? It doesn't seem like an angry scream (I know what that's like haha) Just a loud almost call... but everyone in his flock is in the room! any ideas? I think my fids are going crazy....

Is this bird female or male? Females can scream blooly lound when the harmones go crazy. Sudden screaming that was not there before is a reason for a vet visit if you want to go that route.

This may sound really silly , but here goes ...could there be something in your birds environment that has changed ?
Maybe a certain odor , house cleaner , perfume , cologne , something along those lines changed ?
Have you changed your hair at all ? I know my friend's parrot , a Amazon , totally freaked on her when she went from light colored hair to very dark. That was enough to make this bird scream like a banshee ! She had to change it back ASAP because the bird wouldnt accept her anywhere near him and that broke her heart.
Its funny the things we take for granted that can leave such a impression on birds, The poor guy didnt like his momma to have raven hair .....ba da boom. :30:

He's a he, it's Bleu. Nothing has changed in his environment at all... I've done some research and it seems his scream wasn't a scream at all and it was more of just a loud sqwaking (which I can totally deal with haha, screaming bothers me because that mean's something's wrong!) He didn't seem distressed when making this loud noise, I've just NEVER heard him make it before! He just came back from the vet last month with a clean bill of health. I'm wondering if it's just hormones kicking in late this season. He let me pet his head and was happily chatting while I was making dinner... He seems to be avoiding me at all costs unless I have food though :( Perhaps he's just pitching a fit about something...

Oh by the way the issue of Bird Talk magazine I just got in the mail has an excellent article on bird calls. It takes each kind of call/scream and tells you what it is about.

Bleu is doing wonderfully today... he got a little bit of my cupcake this morning before I went to the bake sale... he's back to being snuggly and happy! Nothing changed! haha I think his hormones are just kicking in a completely random time. He's also just got his wings back, he's been molting so maybe that's it too.... He's playing on his boing as I type haha He's just weird I suppose. He sqwaked really loud while I was in the shower this morning but he didn't sound very concerned! It was much closer to his playful chatter so maybe he was making sure I could hear him over the shower water?

He has been quite viscous with his toys lately though.... I'm chalking that up to the hormones. He's been doing his typical Pionus strut on his perch sometimes (just by himself too, it's so funny to catch him doing it... he freezes and puts all his feathers back smooth like he's trying to hide it haha) It just really concerned me because I was standing about a foot away from him and his cage (my usual distance to keep the respect of HIS space, he was sitting on the open door) and he'd NEVER done that before and he's never really been aggressive with me without reason... (like when I try to get him to step up... he can do it, but refuses to step off his cage without a glove on my hand lol)

ooh oooh ohh, I just remembered too, I read something yesterday that made me think of a reason for the loud sqwaks! I read that a Pionus's worst enemy is a hawk, and if they see one, they'll freeze... so maybe, just maybe, he saw a hawk out the window and it was a warning call? He wasn't really moving when he was making the noise either, no fanned tail or puffed feathers.... (we have lots of hawks and buzzards here)

Thats possible . My birds caught site of a heron ontop of my roof looking down the skylight ! I never heard my birds make the noises that they did that day , and i never heard them again , so its quite possible they saw something that send him into a tizzy :) I wouldnt think that his behaviour towards you would change though :/
They can be puzzling creatures :)

Indeed they can! I'm fairly certain now it's hormones, he was attacking his knot of rope (it's a big ball of rope.. i have no idea how to describe it... lol) and Pi Strutting at it and just playing really rough, when i walked over all bets were off, he put his head out and wanted a good scritching and some pins busted and a few pumpkin seeds haha... maybe he was just in a bad mood :)
