Where to put my Willow???

some of you know that I took in my cousins female Jardine, Willow.
She is not tame with me, but was with my cousin.

I currently have her in our eating area, where she gets plenty of attention, but since we have had her, she likes to bite, and bite hard, she has remained in her cage for the past month and a half.

that is a LONG time for any bird to be in a cage, especially when she was use to being let out at her previous home. I feel so terrible, as I know she deserves soooo much more free time.

my question is, I have the option to put her in the bedroom where my pet birds are, and all receive daily free flight time.

one of my concerns is the possibility of my other birds climbing on Willows cage, god forbid I should have another accident

I can place a blanket over top, and I know my birds will quickly learn to stay away.

My biggest concern is Safari, and visa versa should Willow be out climbing on Safari's cage.

So far I've never had any toes bit severely, just warnings.

My other concern is if I let Willow out, and she doesn't go back in her cage on her own, I am hopeful she will step up on a perch so I can put her back in.

I just don't know what to do, there are so many factors involved here, my main concern is for her to get some out of cage time. I'm feeling terribly guilty as none of my birds are kept in cages constantly.

Even my breeders birds get some free flight time during the week.

with her being in the eating area, we have to put 3 dogs outside, and round up our four cats and tuck them away for her safety(this is when we first got her, then she started biting like crazy)

I just feel bad for her and looking for any solution at this point....

Birds should always be observed when let out to fly. So if your super concerned then another bedroom would be a better choice. That way you wouldn't have to worry about it.

Is there another room she could go in? Like a bedroom that's normally not for birds? If she could be in a room away from the other birds but still be in a safe environment that would be best.

we have a 5 bedroom house and every room is occupied
my daughters room is full of guinea pig cages and our rabbit is in there

our computer room is occupied with my husband sleeping in there from time to time.
He has a torn rotator cuff and is not sleeping well at all, and is going in for surgery at the end of October.

my bird room is full to capacity, so our bedroom is the only other room.

my sons room is in the basement and is out of the question.

Sounds like time to do house shopping for a bigger house for your birds!

I would just go for it, let her out in the flight area and see what happens. Maybe just keep cloth gloves in there just in case you have to grab her. But with all the birds around I would imagine she would be more focused on them rather than you. She might get along quite nicely. She does need to get out and stretch her wings. I do understand your apprehension after all that's happened, and you certainly don't need another vet bill but you'll be right there, and will be able to get a feel of how she'll do very quickly.

thanks Kalidasa, I have no room in our bedroom, but I'm going to move some things around to make it work.

Obviously I'm not going to have any birds out when I open her door, and it won't be the first day, I want her to settle in there first. Then I will choose very carefully one bird to be let out with Willow. It won't be Safari....probably my older calmer cockatiel Sundance.
she's absolutely no threat,even Safari likes and tolerates her quite well.
all my birds are trained to get along, so in time I'm hopeful Willow will be as well.

I'm sure your quite cautious and stressed with all the recent events but don't over stress, things might go smoother then you expect.

exactly!....when I first brought Willow home, there was Edgar too, the Pionus.
I thought Willow would not adjust and Edgar would be the easy going one....well it was the reverse.
Willow was very easy going and went with the flow of our house, which can be noisy, busy, etc....

I don't think I'm stressing(gosh I've done enough of that lately)at least I'm trying not too

Willow has never been around other birds, so I have to consider that as well.
maybe she will become best friends with Safari-oh gosh!...then they both can gang up on me,.... great....just what I need!....ha ha
