Hi all,

Need some advise please. Have a WC which is just about twelve weeks old. Pi is still on hand feeding three times a day even though Pi is eating vegs and seeds and pellets. I have no trouble getting him out of his cage and climbs gladly on my finger and down on the play pen. The problem is that when even Pi sees or hears me pi sttats that begging sound ,bopping his head and it can get very loud, even after being fed. This noise can sometimes get too much AMD ibwould like to know if this will pass or is there something I could do? Pi normally stops after a while if being alone or if I am out if sight, but I don't just want to leave Pi alone:confused:

Welcome to the forums. :)

Yes, the begging noise will stop at some point, but not until 'pi' has been completely weaned and is eating entirely on his own. But even then he 'may' continue to beg for a little while longer.

Enjoy the baby sounds! As annoying as you think they may get. :D

Thank you for the advice, I was scared that Pi will be making this noice for ever and Pi has so mnay other nice sounds that this would be a shame lol. Why does Pi only does with me? Was it because handfed him/her when he/she came from the breeder?

My male WC Pi did this till about 4 months. He was hand fed too (not by me), but I visited him several times a week after I bought him at 3 months of age. Took him home at 4 months.

Um... well, I just adopted a 19 year old bronze winged pi. and he still makes that begging noise, but I kind of like it, it's not too loud. So... in general, yes they are supposed to stop the baby begging sound...but... well... I dunno LOL

That reminds me, Raven did used to make the noise for quite a while after I had him (got him at almost 5 months) and he was completely past weaning. I don't recall when it stopped, I just didn't worry about it and it eventually stopped. Probably not until many months later.

Thanks you all. I think what bothers me the most at this stage is that he is quite during the day ( my folks are with him when I work since 2 days ago) and then when I get home he has a real mouth on him hahahahah it's almost like tantrum. Does he not like me :(

What it is I'd say at this point, is that he is both so young and new that you aren't seeing what his future personality will be like yet.

He is still settling into a brand new environment, plus young juvenile birds will act differently than older juveniles or adults, just as "toddlers" or babies of any animal will.

Raven, my Pionus is a very quiet guy. He always has been. The only time he screams for a couple seconds is to protest what he doesn't want to do, or is bickering with his friend Griffin. Otherwise, his most common noise is talking or mimicking. Yours might stay fairly quiet like Raven, or could open up more as he gets older and/or more comfortable in the home.

Just because your baby makes more noise when he sees you, I wouldn't take that as not liking you, in fact probably the opposite, he identifies you as his person, not your parents. As far as that goes, I have never been Raven's favorite person. Just like their Amazon cousins, Pionus are very opinionated on their preferences of people. Still, if socialized he won't become a one person bird, but will have his favorite. Raven likes me, but I have to watch my fingers while his human daddy doesn't lol.

This week Pi turned 13 weeks and I bought him a play ladder for that, he is still checking it out ;) He has finally decided that he is no baby no more and does not wish to be hand fed any more. No I kind of miss it lol. The begging sounds has now turned into the sweetests whistles and chattering. He does not like to be touched too much, so I let it be, but he still steps up and down when being moved from cage to playpen, a place where he can spend the whole day. I hope one day he will enjoy scratches a bit more. He also likes to fly down from the playpen when I get home and then I am being followed around the house like a little dog, but boy just dont pick me up when I am exploring. He makes the funniest moaning noice when he wants to go sleepy time I could eat him up. So all well in the land of wc:)

Oh what a cutie!

I love their little pokey walk and bright eye when they explore...
