My wife and I know that a Bronze Wing Pionus will be our next parrot. We are coming to find out that they are awfully hard to find. Does anyone out there know of a good place to find a Bronze Wing? We are patient if we need to wait while on a new breeding. Any ideas? Thanks a lot.

Ah, another Bronze Winged lover :). Can I ask why you want one? Just curious is all.

I have a male BW, Raven. About 10 years ago I lost a female BW. I find my female was a lot more easy going and 'nicer' than Raven is. I do love their colors, and yes, they have been hard to find, then again none of the Pionus are real popular as compared to some other genuses. Raven came from Indiana. I do see or hear of them in various rehome situations several times a year too.

The BW is beautiful. I think they are one of the prettiest parrots there is. Pionus is what we are familiar with and BW seems to be the perfect size and personality type among the pionus as well.

We were just hoping that someone here could point us in the right direction to locate one in the future.

I'll pm you info. Keep in mind when you say 'personality type among the Pionus', my vet will tell you they are the most prone to hormonal behavior problems, and the two I've had/have are very different in personalty as well. I agree, I think they're one of the prettiest of parrots although not 'brightly colored'.

I believe there's a male BW pionus available for adoption from a rescue in North Jersey. I don't know where you are, or if you are set on finding a baby.

Thanks, Do you know what rescue it is? I don't have enough posts yet so it won't let me send PMs. I searched for New Jersey rescues and there are a ton of them.

Thanks. He is beautiful. Im not sure if we really want to start with a 17 year old that slowly warms up to only one person; if we had the choice. He looks awesome though. Thanks for the tips.

I know this post is old, but if you're still looking you might check Avalonaviary.com out of Loveland, Co. They don't maintain their website, so don't trust that, but I've heard great things about them.

I found a Female Bronze wing in Sacramento that needs a new home due to her Elderly owner not being able to care for her. She is older about 14 years old I think it said. She almost died from getting egg bound but made it.

Poor little girl needs a good home anyone in Cali looking for a Bronze wing?

I would love to have a bronze wing. It's the last bird on my "bucket list"
But there is no way I can take on a new bird now. Not with my "rescue" African grey"
Plus 4 baby cockatiels getting ready to wean.
I hope she finds a good home, thanks for posting the info.

I contacted Avalonaviary.com but they do not breed Bronze winged pionus anymore. thank you much anyway for your interest to help.

All - please post if you have any more suggestions to find a Bronze Winged Pionus.

thank you.

I just want to keep this active and near the top, as my dream bird is a female bronze winged pionus.... baby or rehome. I truly hope that someone is able to find info. Several people that i have read have said that they have been looking for 2 years plus..... i hope that they are not going to be impossible to find a breeder, it would be sad for BW pi's to "go extinct" in the US.
