Sherman, WCP, joined our flock about 6 months ago. She had been abused and neglected. She's making strides big time!

Today Sherman did two things that make me so proud. During cage cleaning today, she let me unhook a toy only a few inches away from her AND she sat on her swing with me in the room. That makes 3 toys including the swing.

Sherman's really having successes! I've been considering two things. First, know that 3 conures and 2 budgies are in a room together
All 3 conures are rehomes aged 19 months to 23 years. One budgie is a rescue and the youngest is a pet store baby. These are the 2 options on my mind:
1. Move Sherman into the "conure" area;
2. Move the conures and budgies into Sherman's room.

Both rooms are the same size. Sherman's cage would need it's playtop removed and the rooms' doors removed to move her cage. Whereas the other cages would fit. There is room to put all the conure cages and budgie cage across from hers in her room whereas Sherman would share a wall in the "conure" room. The "conure" room is a birdroom already though. The birdroom is closer to my bedroom whereas Sherman's is across the house. Sherman's room has carpet; birdroom, linoleum. Each room has it's pros and cons.

There's always the option of not moving anyone. I think it would benefit her to spend more time around the other birds and it would be easier on me, too. Any thoughts?

I’d be inclined to move Sherman into the conure room, since it sounds like it’s well set up as a bird room and closer to where you are. My birds don’t all get along, but I firmly believe that they benefit from being in the same space as other birds even if they don’t directly interact. I’ve noticed it’s easier to introduce new foods and new toys as they see each other eating or playing with things. I love having everyone in the same area of the house, it’s definitely easier for me as well.

I don't have an answer except to say that my lone BH Pi has probably experienced about 6 nightfrights in her 15 yrs of life, the last one last week. In the middle of the night, something scares her and she starts thrashing about her cage. I have to turn on the lights, uncover her and take her out to cuddle with for about 15-20 minutes till she calms down and stops trembling. Then she goes back in and sleeps. if I try to rush her, she won't get in her cage. If Sherman is on the far side of the house and has one of these, will you hear her?

Sherman is a disabled bird missing nails and drags that foot... You don't want to know all the details... I have a padded cage floor and live with a two-way baby monitor for her.

Sherman is not my first or only special needs bird. I'm sorry to hear about your BHP. I seldom tell people because few have that experience. It seems Sherman should be exposed to other birds. She's my first Pi and I just didn't know if it's be best to move her or move the other birds.

Aww....you have a big heart!!! The rescue Queen! How does she react to the others? I'd say birdies together. Even if they don't get along it's mental stimulation, feeling if being part of a flock, I find they all take baths in their individual cages at the same time, abd nap at the same time. Otherwise she is left wondering if she is missing out on something. My parakeets are across the house from the other parrot cages but in sight of each other, I rolled the parakeets outside for some sun and everyone threw a fit they definitely feel they are one flock, so I rolled out everyone's cages and they were all so happy. Yes please make her feel part of the flock and let her see everyone. :)

You know the quick n easy way to post pic is click the go advanced button under the text box then click the paper clip to add pics from your phone, they will appear small under the text box but when clicked will enlarge so we can see. Under your name and friends list you can make an album and load pics to it, then click on pic and click the second line and hit copy then go to your post and click paste. I definitely want to see pics. Thank you for taking on special needs!!! And rescue Parrots!!! If I ever add to my flock it will be rescues, no babies. Seeing my rescue Penny start to recover just melts my heart, and my rehomed parakeets getting a large cage and allowed to fly and eating veggies makes me smile. If I could add more I would. Now pics please!!! ;)

The most loving and loyal birds (with one exception) have been rescues.

I moved her into the birdroom and she did something new. The budgies hold onto a specific perch and flap like crazy. Sherman sorta copied them by holding onto the cage bars with her good foot and flapped BOTH wings. I wish she could fly. It'd be amazing! She also squeaked at all the noise.

Okay, I'm including an imgur link to my flock incognito for Halloween. The 3 conures are rehomes; Sherman, Glenn, Chirps and JoJo are rescues; Tommy came from a tiny pet shop now out of business.

This is Sherman's good side with silliness. Haha

This is Chirps. He still has 2 weeks of quarantine left. https://i.imgur.com/D4ks8GV.jpg

Aw they are beautiful! I’m glad you moved her to the bird room, sounds like she’s enjoying it so far.

I agree that second-hand birds are the best....mine are all rehomes and rescues and I love them to bits :)

Is Sherman named for the tank? Or the man the tank was named after?

She came that name. It fit, so I kept it! Actually, most every bird comes with a name and very bad eating habits! HAHA

Only three times in decades have I changed names and one is happening now over months. My BCC. Her name was Miss Bird and I'd started calling her Little Missy. I really thought both were hard, so ran a name my bird chat. She's now Duchess Aurora, Duchess of Dawn. I started calling her Duchess Bird. A few days ago, I started to just call her Duchess, which she seems to answer to.

My daughter asked if SHERMAN was a GEORGE-thing. A bird got the name George then started laying eggs!

That's the name Sherman responds to, so Sherman it stays! It doesn't hurt that she's big for a WCP and overweight! (Thus the pic words) She's built like a tank!!! And knows how to fire one off!

One thing I can proudly say is that I love and am amazed by her. (I have a tendency to think all the birds here are the best!!! ;) ) I'm honored to be loved and trusted by wonderful birds!

Adoption saves lives. Always adopt!

Please know that rescues make for the most loyal and loving friends!
