Is this cage suitable?

Hello! I'm new here, just lurking around a bit. I do not have a bird just yet, but I am very interested in getting one and I am sure that I want a Senegal when I am ready for one! I am trying to do all of the necessary reading first, combined with the purchasing of lots of goodies before even attempting to look for the right bird. My question right now... I found this cage on Amazon and I really like it. The bar spacing is correct (3/4in), it has horizontal bars instead of vertical, it has a seed catcher, and it has a top of the cage perch which are all things I was looking for. It is 24/22/37.5 inches (inside dimensions). Here is the link:

Would this be a good cage for a Senegal?

Thank you! :]

Welcome to the forum. That is a perfect cage size for a Senegal! You might want to get the dometop style so the bird has more space inside!

Thanks for the reply! Do you think dome tops are better than a playtop? Do Senegals like it better? I would like for him or her to be able to be out of their cage for a good majority of the day and that would be a nice place for him or her to perch. :]

Yes, this is a good cage and should fit your Senegal very nicely. If you read the reviews on it, all 7 reviews ranked it very high. Most bought it for their Sun Conures, which about the same size as a Senegal.

The dimensions and bar spacing seem just right for a Senegal sized parrot. The reviews are very positive as well.

Personally, I prefer the flat top cages, with the play stands, like the one you linked.

I did read the reviews and was very pleased, just wanted to get some opinions from people who are experienced with Senegals. :] Thanks to everyone! I'm assuming whether one gets a dome top or a playtop is kind of a personal thing. I do like the play tops, but will continue to research. :]

Which shape they perfer depends on the bird. My girl doesn't play with toys unless it's balled up paper, and seems almost phobic about most perches, so a play top for her would be useless. But for a sennie that loves to play, one would be perfect.

That cage is bit bigger than mine has, and she hasn't offered any complaints yet, so it's safe to say yours would love it.

Sennies are great starter parrots, and I'm glad to hear you've done research.

I used to get play top but I find it a pain to deal with, I prefer to put them on the play stand better....

I love my playtop, but I agree w/Mikey. If you take it off the cage & use it as a portable, its very heavy & cumbersome. We just wheel the cage around & he sits on top. He seems to like it.

No, Thanks you. I've been thinking of getting Tiki a new bigger cage for Christmas so I'm saving the link to order one as well for my Sennie in a few weeks. Boy this bird is spoiled ROTTEN I tell you.

What did you mean by "No, Thanks you.?" Kind of confused haha. Not spoiled, just lucky and loved! :] All my current animals are "spoiled" so it's safe to say my bird will be as well! ;]

I have a dome top cage, similar to the one you are looking at. Max's cage top actually opens and has a perch you can put for the bird to sit on top of the cage. Max loves it! :)

This is the cage I have for our Senegal and she love to be out on her play top climbing up and down her ladder or playing in her bowls.

I prefer the playton version because if your bird will be anything like Tiki, she LOVES playing on the top of her cage. But she hated the play stand that I had gotten her awhile back.
