is gonna try something new with the nut!

for the pass 2 wks, nut has been more willfull then ever!

today she is in her cage, while i am home! this has not been the case for soo very long, she will be let out later, but i am thinking of reducing her out of cage time, even when we are at home?? she will be let out later,

i am not sure if this will help, as with nut being flighted i have no probs with her flyin about house to join us etc, but its the flyin either at us or on us to give us a bite, and this is what has gotten worse over the past wks, also she will not go near her cage, not even for food! but if i go to clean it etc she will try to bite me!

she is currently rather settled in her cage, as when i lift my head we can easily see each other, but while i go to cook, i'll move cage infront of the window

i'd be thankfull for any other suggestions, its back to work tomorrow and i have no wish to leave my son alone with nut, because of this flyin attack thing, as his on his summer holidays.

i am thinking cage time most of the day till about 3/4, out time, shower with me, super then bed by 7 for nut??

Sounds like a good plan. I hope she settles down. Harmones play such a big role in our birds behavior, if that is what is the root cause.

I would try anything once. I usually don't recommend clipping a birds wings once they have started flying like your Nut. But if you have a flighted bird that like fly and land on you just to bite you then I would highly suggest getting her wings clipped.

Mayeb its hormones? Elssie has become a right pain the last week or so, she is biting so much all of a sudden, but its not drawing blood as she used to, she has masterd the art of such a painful bite, but with out actual damage!

But yeah, its only the last week i would say whihc i have found very odd!!???!! but let me know how it goes as mine now also has ALL her fllight feathers back , and quite the acrobat with it, and spends so much time out....so keep me infformed!!!

vets wont clip wings here, she is currently out an behaving herself lol i found her fav pink ball under sofa, well she did she started tryin to run under sofa lol

she yelled a bucket load, but as soon as she was out she went to sleep on curtain pole

i really felt bad, but at the same time relieved as i could see she was not a happy chappy an had murder in her eyes grrr

i wonder if ours are from same clutch?? or passin notes on how to really annoy the minions!!!
lol i do think its a case of to much time not enough to do, like with kids lol so when nut is out there'll be something goin on etc like showers, cleanin etc

I think you hit on something here, Nut like any small child needs constructive things to do w/her energy. Could your son start a "trick" session for her. It would be good for both of them, Nut could burn off excessive energy & your son would benefit from spending less time w/feral neighborhood teenagers.

lol son has not made it past day one of the school holidays!! his already been grounded lol though his not runnnin feral, his eating EVERYTHING!!!! grrr lol

i think i might try training, but the problem is keepin up with it, but will try diff things etc nut is not overly food motivated!

LOL! Ellsie is not hugely interested in food either so i know the annoyance that she doesnt really seem to get it when food is praise... but then i think thatsa my problem to.

I have always thought that Nut may well be a sister by everything that is said, I know that Elssie was born in Kent and her breeder was called Simon!! .... but im sure there passing notes and plotting there attacks together!!! x

I would also recommend clipping her wings to make her more dependent and force her to put more trust in you. I know what you mean, There isn't a vet within two hours of me that will look at birds, but when the time comes I plan to clip them myself. I found this video particularly helpful.

lol ty for vid karigan, but there is no way i will personally clip nut, for the simple reason, she will remember an possibly send her more angry

If she is flying at you just to bite you I would not hesitate to get her wings clipped. I can tell you some things I did that were effective in bringing Cracker's biting problem under control. First, if dogs or cats are not an issue in your house, I would lower her cage to a point that you always stand above her. Second, until her biting behavior is under control, I would not allow her on your shoulder or near your head. Always keep her on your lap or the lower part of your arm. These two steps seem rather silly, but by always keeping Nut below you, you are expressing your dominance over Nut. Another thing you might attempt to do, is when Nut bites you push into the bite rather than pull away. This can be very dificult to do, but when you pull away when Nut bites you are giving her exactly what she wants. You are inadvertantly rewarding her bad behavior. Believe me when you start pushing into her bite you will be dealing with one shocked parrot. Also when you see Nut attempting to bite you try to knock her off balance (gently). You can do this by quickly twisting your arm a little. Usually this procedure will disrupt her enough to avoid the bite. It is also another reason to keep Nut on the lower part of your arm while she is in her biting phase. You have more control over Nut on the lower part of your arm than on your shoulder. If Nut is being especially nippy you should place her in her cage and ignore her for about an hour. I know Cracker hates for me to ignore him. One final thing, you should always complete what you are doing even if Nut bites you. If you are cleaning Nut's cage and she bites you make sure you finish cleaning her cage anyways. If you want Nut to go back to her cage and she resists by biting you, you should place her in her cage anyways. You have to be the adult in the relationship and draw some lines that Nut cannot cross.
You used up about all my knowledge on bird behavior. Doing these things helped me control Cracker's biting problem, and I hope they help you in controlling Nut's biting problem. From the way you described Nut's behavior in previous posts, I do think Nut likes and trusts you. I think you are well on the way to having friend for life. Good luck!

lol winston, i've done the pushing my finger against bite etc does not work, it inavertantly leaves my finger in her beak for the grinding chomp

i won't lower her cage as then she will be afraid to be in it, as she does not like bein on the floor, unless she is chasing a un-shoed foot

i always feel that gettin bit by nut, leaves her and me needing a time out, but the problem is, by being apart makes her more angry, so she does not get the time out she needs

and yes nut does trust me, or she would not act the way she does with me, i do not let her run riot, but in this reducing her out time (she is out when ever some1 is home, an most days at least 6hours, if not more, when i am on days of or as now with school holidays)
i am not saying your method does not work or will not work with nut, but i have tried most things after researchin the net

but today she was in her cage till 1pm she kinda screamed an threw murderous looks our way, but we passed comments with her, she settled when she realised she was not gettin ignored, just left in there,
when she was released lol she went to sleep on the curtain pole, while i continued my normal day, then around 4 she came alive an was playing with us an in a rather good mood, she did try to fly over to my son to bit his hands as he took her pennies!

but i asked her if she wanted to go for a shower, though she refused a step up, flew onto my shoulder to go up stairs an flew strait into the bathroom and waited patiently

she showered with my son, then me! (i am so gonna have to get a shower perch)

then she chilled came for head rubs, landed a few time on my head, but i shuck her of an she landed on back of office chair, where she got a head rub, chatted, she was probably tellin me how nasty i was to her today lol

then at her supper time, i put her supper into her cage, an she went in as soon as i walked away, went back closed door an stayed with her while she ate an off to bed

so tomorrow i am working till 3 pm i have left instructions for my son NOT to let her out, her cage as always is set up for the day, with lots of foraging foods, and her attack toys lol so will see how that goes
