I'm just curious if any one else's bird does this.
Kito was hanging out on my shoulder when my husband tried to pick her up. She let out this low gargling sound, and I was wondering if that was her growling?

My Ruby will growl at a friend of ours and anyone she associates with him. And she hisses when I irritate her.

Bob hisses at bed time and in the morning when I wake him up. He gets about 12 hrs of sleep a night so I don't believe that he is sleep deprived.

when nut growls it sounds like a quiet cats growl! an a growling bird is not good! lol

Hi, my bird does that at night - she sits on my shoulder (I know I know) I rub her head while she "gargles" and she falls asleep. It's somewhere between a gargle and a purr - not really a growl.
