Hi,

I suspected this forum would be a little dead.

I've been researching for the last few weeks. After hashing it out with friends and googling, I've decided to concentrate on a Meyers parrot. This species is known to be friendly with multiple family members and clownish.

Can you help me find a breeder in Arizona? I've called three, and all of them are retiring and selling off their stock (no Meyers left).

Thanks,

Rick

I can try and give you a hand to find a meyers parrot breeder. :D If not you could ways contact a breeder in another states and get it shipped over... it only costs like around 100$ extra. Though i know alot of people(including myself) are a little iffy about the whole shipping thing. Though i haven't heard any problems with it, i don't know why i still don't like the idea.

Anyway off i go and will help you search.

Oh ya and if you cant find a meyers breeder you could always try and find another from the same family, such as, jardines, redbellies, senegal... etc.

I'm not a big fan of shipping. I surely wouldn't want to go through it. ;)

I've researched that family of birds, and while I'm not looking for a guarantees, the spectrum of behavior favors the Meyers (friendly to more than just one, etc).

Thanks for your efforts.

Where abouts are you in Arizona? If your like by the border sort of to near another state... you could always try and look and see if there any breeders in that state but near the border... os its like in driving distance.

I know there's alot of breeders in arizona... but don't know how close you are.. or where exactly the breeders are in california.

I'm in Phoenix which is dead-center in Arizona. A couple hundred miles from any border.

My first task is to find a Meyers breeder. So far, no luck.

I'm patient.

That's the first I've heard of them.

Do you have URLs for them?

No, i understand why you made the mistake. The website did too. I wasn't laughing at you, i was just laughing at the way it's spelled.

And while we're on the whole grammar thing. That comment didn't make sense.

But whatever.

Nice to see you back.

I e-mailed them...

Hello,
Thank you for your interest in the meyers parrot. He/she was hatched on 01/21/2007. He/she was handfed and weaned here. The price for the bird is $499.99. We are offering 20% off everything in our store until Dec 31.

Thank You,

$500 ??

Rick

I think that's a good price. But then again I'm in Canada. That's the average price i would say around here for a Pi. I mean, i'm paying $550 for my sennie.
No idea what the average price is in the USA. It all depends on how many breeders are in the area.. or availability. Since this looks like the only one. I would go for it. After all, they DO turn out to be worth SO MUCH MORE once you actually bring it home. Actually. They are priceless once they become yours.

:D
good luck. Your journey has only just begun.

Next you need:

Cage
Toys
Food
Avian Vet
and lots of love and attention. :)

Looks like the birdie pet shop is charging me a $200 premium over what the other breeders are suggesting.

Any opinion about issues concerning the bird's age?

Hmmm... well lets see this bird must be almost a year old by now. It was born near the end of January i guess it would make it. Hmmmm lets see the breeder i got my cockatiels from and also the breeder that i plan on getting my sennie from keeps them until they can eat on their own... but it usually ends being around three months. So that would be April or so that this bird should have though since no one got it it would be about 6 or 7 months. Though it all depends on when it was able to eat on it's own. I don't think it would make too much, i think as long as the bird is under a year it's fine. Though go with your gut feeling. If you feel that you should keep looking then go for it, but if you think that this might be 'the one' then go for it. You could also go and visit the bird and see how it reacts with you, if it has that special 'click' opr bond with you i would go for it, but if you think that this bird really isn't your thing then keep going. Birds are like humans they all have different personalities, so if one doesn't feel right with you then you don't have to go searching for a whole another species. You probably knew that already but, just making sure. :)
