Apartment too loud for senegal parrot?

Emi, a 14-year old senegal
I joined this forum to ask for advice regarding my 13 year old senegal parrot. I've had Emi since I was 11 years old, and she is very important to me. My parents have been looking after her since I moved out. Not only do I miss her and want to be able to see her more regularly, but my parents do not like her very much and often complain about her.
The only concern is the noise level in my apartment. Emi does not make much noise provided she is entertained, so I don't worry that she'll be too loud. I worry that the apartment will be too loud for her. My apartment is located in the heart of a metropolitan area, and helicopters/sirens can often be heard at night. During the day, we can hear our neighbor's children playing. I've heard that loud noises make senegals nervous, but have never encountered that problem myself, because Emi and I grew up in a rural area. It is not feasible for me to relocate at this time.
Does anyone have any experience with this?

I'm not experienced with Senegal's but I don't think the noises outside your apartment will be to noisy for her.

I have 3 kids (10, 10 and 4) all boys, so you can imagine how noisy my house gets. My Ecky doesn't batter and eyelid... Unless he decides to join in the screaming match and then I have 4 noisy 'people' to calm down.

Thanks, Aims. :)
I hope Emi is similarly unbothered by the noise.
I'd feel awful if we brought her here only for her to have a birdy panic attack and have to get back on the plane to live with my parents again!

I think it will be okay. It could take some getting used to, but parrots are made to be noisy and tolerate noise. :)

When I first moved Puck into my apartment, and my upstairs neighbors started stomping around, he did suspiciously eye the ceiling, but he got used to it faster than I did.

I agree, your bird would be fine. My bird gets scared a bit when the trash truck drives by and stops to get the trash. But with her it's more of a sight thing than the noise.

Senegal Male Bogart
Having Bogart for 7 years now and traveling all over and staying in Hotels (the one I'm in now has a no pet policy) I have never had a word said about my bird (except all the house keepers want to steal him LOL) he settles into new sounds and learns the new routines very quickly, Bring your bird home with you asap give mom and dad a break and let harmony renew; your bird will love you for it and you will be more at peace. I wake up every morning and uncover Bogarts cage and hearing his little clicks and whistles makes my day and I walk into the buzz saw of life with a smile (if only for a little while) well speaking of it's time to get started now so "Go get your Bird!"

Yeah, she might be out of sorts for a few days till she gets used to it, but after that I'm sure she'll adapt.

Emi's all settled in now! As much of a scaredy-bird as she usually is, the noise level doesn't seem to bother her at all. Phew!
Thanks again to everyone who gave me advice. :)

When I got Emi, I knew absolutely nothing about parrots! I read every book about senegals I could get my hands on, and spent a great deal of time lurking on this forum.
Despite being a complete bird noob, I guess I didn't mess up too badly, because we're still great friends! I hope it's the same for you and Oliver! :)

Yup, we're buds. :) Took me a while to earn his trust after his previous home, but these past few weeks he's warmed up to me. :D

Oh, I love the name Emi. :D

Birds get used to noise after a while, during the day leave some music or the radio on so it can act like white noise to cover the other noises.

I love my red belly so much, I want to collect one (at least) of all the poi. This could be wonderful, but I have to be cautious not to become a hoarder. If I do try this, I would start with a Senny, they seem so wonderful. I would love to have 10 more red bellies though... Im becoming obsessed.

Good to hear she's all settled.

My neighbourhood itself is quiet, but two blocks from there is a police station and a fire hall. So, lots of sirens for me to enjoy, too. Pixel doesn't seem to care.... though she has tried to imitate them!

Conurecrazy: How long have you had Oliver? Also, thanks. :D
CopperArabian: Good idea!
Meganmango: You should get a senegal! They have such great personalities. I wish I could collect them all too...but I think Emi would be jealous.
Halfinsane: Yup! I'm sure it's only a matter of time before Emi starts imitating the sound of my neighbor's baby crying!

I've had him since July, but he is actually 2 and a half as of right now. His owner who rehomed him said he was around 2, but seeing the condition of his cage, food, and water, Im not sure if that's really his exact age. But, I have nothing else to believe, so I'll just believe his previous owner. So, about 2 and a half , hit I've actually had him only 4 months. He's turning out to be a real sweety though.

Poor little guy :/. Some people buy parrots thinking you can feed them, watch them when you're bored, and then ignore them the rest of the time. I'm glad he has a good home now! :D
