Anyone own a red bellied? How do they compare with eachother? Any reason to prefer a red bellied over Senegal or Senegal over red bellied? Looks, price, talking abilities aren't important. Who has a more passive temperament? Who is quieter. Who is cuddlier? Who is more sociable and friendlier( less of a 1 person bird)..

Piper - Peachface Lovebird;
Shade - Senegal Parrot;
Joey & Pixel - Red-bellied Parrots;
Petey & Zuri - Meyer's Parrots;
Léa - Cape Parrot
I have both and wouldn't really see a reason to look for one more than the other.

Temperament - fundamentally, they are quite a like. I find differences will be found more on an individual to individual basis more than species basis.

Quieter - wouldn't say one is noisier than the other. Both are quite capable of doing the high pitch Poicephalus call but I wouldn't say either of mine is noisier than the other. I find them quite quiet for parrots.

Cuddlier - again, I think this is an individual to individual thing.

Sociable/friendlier - this, I believe has more to do with how a bird is raised. If properly socialized from an early stage, and kept socialized, then chances are that bird will be sociable and friendly. I think Senegals have the worst reputation on that front, of being a one person bird, but here my Senegal is the least so, because I socialized her early on. Both my Red-bellieds I got when they were older and they needed a bit more work because they weren't socialized the same way but they are coming around. The RBs I found to be more clownish and will "show off" more in front of company.

I have had my female redbellied parrot for about 5 weeks now and she is really neat . she is now 6 mo. old . I don't find her loud at all she mostly whistles and clicks but does have calls that she makes when having a discussion with my quaker parrot whose cage is about three inches away from hers. she loves to play with her toys and can entertain herself quite nicely.:D

another thing I forgot to add is from what I have read the african redbellied parrot is supposed to be the best talker of this group of parrots. she also loves to ride on your shoulder and watch what your doing. another thing I noticed is that my quaker takes a few days or longer to decide a new toy is not going to hurt him where the redbellied will walk right over and check it out, and start to play with it:D
