Just recently I posted a thread about how my Senegal would prefer to eat all of my other birds, as he doesn't get along with any of them....until today.

In the past few days, I brought home a new lovebird named Luna, a sweet little baby male(I think)

Yesterday, Safari my senegal bit Luna's toe when he was inside his cage. I also noticed Safari just sitting on Lunas cage as well, just hanging out for quite some time.

Today, Luna was out, went right over to Safari's cage and they started gently beaking thru the bars, as if they were bonding.

Luna has now decided that Safari isn't so bad and visa versa.

I won't put them together any time soon cause it is way too early, and Safari can and will inflict some real damage to my little lovebird

what a pleasant surprise!!:D here are some pics....

Your Sennie is capable of doing serious damage to your other, smaller birds, and even them beaking through cage bars does not preclude the possibility of there being some latent jealousy or aggression toward the new lovie.

It's often wise to allow new & existing birds an adjustment period before they are allowed close contact with each other...you might want to move their cages apart a bit so that the possibility of future biting would be lessened.

weco- so what you are saying is that one moment Safari will be nice to Luna, and then the next minute attack him....yes I understand completely.

Isn't that like most birds??

for example, I have two young lovebirds from different clutches I have decided to keep as pets. they HATED each other, almost fighting to the death, day after day when they were out for free flight time. I had to constantly separate them.
gradually they started excepting one another now I have them in the same cage. they are inseparable but get into 'tiffs'

Safari's cage is far apart from Lunas cage.
Luna loves to sit on the cactus perch that is attached to Safari's cage.

Safari was quite bonded with a pineapple conure I owned, they cuddled, pruned each other for most of the day, but were kept in separate cages. I knew Safari could inflict some major damage to my conure, they spent most of their time together under supervision.

Safari was behaving entirely the same way with the conure, as with my lovebird Luna

I would never trust Safari completely with any of my birds, he is too unpredictable.

Luna has been with us for 5 days now, and I have slowly introduced him to all of my birds with complete supervision.
my male cockatiel Num Num was pruning Luna this morning. Num Num is our resident greeter of sorts, welcomes all the new arrivals with 'hey baby watcha doin?" and just has a way with many different species of birds.

I will never put Luna with Safari ever, but I did think it was nice to see them getting use to one another.

Cute, he has some interest in that lovebird. Charlie my sun conure and Benny the lovebird are bestest of friends! THey love eachother. They were raised and housed together from 3 weeks of age though.
