Hey guys!
Thank you for all your advice about taking Mango on the airplane. Turns out all went really well! He was super quiet on the airplane, and he danced to the radio in the car on the way to my parents. He was completely unfazed by the whole thing.
I do want to note though, that the carrier has to go through the X-ray scanner. If you dont want your bird in the machine, you have to take him or her out while they scan it. Since Mango is fully flighted and hates the harness I had to ask for a little room to pull him out. He was pretty nervous about this and getting him back in the carrier required towelling him. Once again I think I will need to really work on getting him to wear the harness, it would make these sorts of things much easier. Its the only part that upset him. It couldnt have been terribly traumatic though, he was chatting up everyone in the room and throughout the airport as soon as he was back in his carrier.
In addition they wont let you bring water in the carrier, and its a little tricky putting water in the carrier once the plane has taken off. I had to ask the stewardess for water and they werent thrilled with the whole thing.

Megan, not sure about security restrictions, but a couple of apple & orange slices or a few grapes would take care of in-flight thirst & snacks.....

Glad all went well with the Flying Mango.....

When I spoke with the vet we decided not to do that because he doesnt usually get a lot of fruit. He does eat blueberries, but we are pretty cautious of sugar. He is pretty robust at the moment and doesnt need to be gaining any more weight :)
