oh my gosh finally!!....almost 4 months to the day Safari died, I finally found my Senegal baby.

there was an ad on kijiji, that I responded to and went out this morning to take a look at her(the owner thinks it's a she from a pelvic exam)

she stepped out of the cage, I put my finger up, and she promptly beaked my thumb rather hard.....ok I'll let him take you out:rolleyes:

he took her out and then she stepped up for me again, then promptly beaked my thumb again:eek:
rather beaky I'd say;)

the next time I was prepared for it, then I started rubbing her beak every time she tried it....well, she forgot all about it then just wanted her beak rubbed, haha.
After 10 minutes or so, she wasn't beaking any more....apparently it's just a phase and easily trained out....good, cause Safari never ever beaked me hard.

I named her Martini, she's 3 months old, pied,(her dad is pied) banded, hand fed and tamed.
the breeder fed her Zupreem fruit blend, and sunflower seeds...uggg.
she never ate the pellets just the seeds, but he was honest and told me she prefers the seeds.

fast forward home: I put her in the cage, and she went straight for the good food:D....brown cooked wild rice, sprouted split peas, corn, peas, and beans.

the good thing about her is she was in the cage with 4 sun conures and around a11 month old Scarlett macaw, 6 baby AG's, 10 baby lovebirds, cockatiels, Alexandrine and 4 blue front Zons.

this guy has probably $30,000 in bird sales alone, sitting in his kitchen.
he told me his Senegal pair are on eggs again....and I'm thinking....so soon!!!
(way too soon)...unless she is double clutching.

then he found out I breed pure cockatiel Lutinos....he offered to pay me what I want for them, he would come out, and buy them so I don't have to feed them.

I have 3 baby cockatiels that just hatched, 5,3,1 day old.
....Breeders.....why is it always about money! I personally would rather hang on to my babies, cause they are just that --my babies....for me it's not about the money, it's about raising them, and I love it.

Martini, loves her cage, I have her in Willows old cage, and it's currently in the living room away from my other birds, until her quarantine is over.

Anybody have any info on a pied Senegal? he said they are rare, I'm thinking it's just strange:confused:

Martini getting a taste for the yummy food :)

who is this strange person looking at me?? ha ha

Beth, I am SO so happy for you!! This is JUST exactly what the doctor ordered! Martini is GORGEOUS! What a sweet looking birdy! She will make herself at home in no time flat. I mean, look at her, she's already going to town on homecooked, healthy yummies, it can't get any better than that. :D

I can literally see you smiling from one ear to the next, which in turn, is making me smile with you.

YAY YAY YAY!!!

Congratulations Beth! Martini is GORGEOUS! What a little sweetheart:) You have been looking so long and I am so tickled that this day is finally here:)

I have one question -

the good thing about her is she was in the cage with 4 sun conures and around a11 month old Scarlett macaw, 6 baby AG's, 10 baby lovebirds, cockatiels, Alexandrine and 4 blue front Zons.

All these birds are in the same cage???

thanks everyone!! it really does seem strange to have another senegal here, but she is sweet.
gosh, could you tell I was rambling just a wee bit....just terrible english...uggg. ahhh well, I was so excited my mind was racing to get it typed.

Terry....funny you should ask,(sorry, I didn't explain it very well) she was in a cage with 4 other baby sun conures. beside her in an adjoining cage were 4 baby GC conures.
below her were the 4 zons, all babies. beside them was a very noisy Alexandrine.
the Scarlett macaw was out of his cage beside the other cages.

I didn't care much for the way he handled the macaw, he wanted it to go back in the cage, he was going out, and when it didn't step up, he just grabbed the bird, pulled it towards him while it floundered around, then put it in the cage.....I'm thinking to myself....Jesus buddy, you wait until that bird is 2, and you won't have any fingers left.

he also told me to flick Martini's beak should she beak to hard....I prefer my method better

on the floor was a huge bin full of babies, AG's, & lovebirds. the lovebirds were 6 weeks old and acted like they were 3 weeks old. no perches, no toys nothing!all were huddled together in one big clump trying to hide from life....my babies @ 4 weeks of age are stepping up, giving kisses, and are already in a small cage to explore their surroundings....idk, everybody has their way of doing things.

Thanks Beth, that makes sense..I was trying to picture what kind of cage would hold all of them!

So sad the way some people do things:( Martini was definitely the one who was meant to come home with you, I have no doubt at all:)

she's been eating non-stop....I kid you not. she goes from the veggie bowl, to the pellet/seed bowl, to the water dish, plays for 5 minutes then eats again.

she was napping a bit, she must be quite tired.she's really enjoying the sunshine today, I think the warmth is making her sleepy, and relaxed....

on Tuesday she goes in for her check-up. I also have to take Num Num in for his regular monthly beak trim, so it's a good time to take both in.

they are really strange to me, almost wrong somehow, although I have no knowledge or proof, maybe it's a anomaly in mother nature, idk.

well, either way I've got one:D

I don't know how It came about either. I wonder if it's a naturally occurring mutation in the wild?

Such a sweetie Martini. I tried looking up pied Senegals and didn't find much other than it's a mutation that has shown up in captivity. I also saw a yellow mutation. It was almost completely yellow and a bit freaky. I also saw some crazy mutations for other parrots on my search.
