Martini - update on who's lovin' who

Martini has been here for about 2+ weeks, and she has been such a joy.
she flies to anyone, and is so very friendly, for a senegal.

she seems very content and overjoyed to see Dave. I honestly think he's the 'chosen' one. she is super gentle when she is on him, gently giving him a pruning around his face, then has to stop on the way and give him kisses.

she just chills on his shoulder, not wanting any attention, just happy to be there

Martini is good with me as well, loves sitting on my shoulder, and playing under my hair. she has learned how to 'beak bunt' when she wants me to pat her

it's like 'hey pay attention to me!'...

you can tell she is smitten with Dave.... I love seeing him get all sappy with a bird.

she has a GREAT appetite, loves veggies etc....and really HATES staying in her cage.
I rotate the birds every other day due to Kahlua(my pineapple conure) not wanting to accept Martini, to reduce the amount of friction between the two.
None of my other birds have an issue with Martini, just Kahlua.

I have to say Martini is exceptional with my cockatiels, and lovebirds, doesn't even bat an eye when they are out....hopefully that will continue.

She is still quite beaky, but simmers down once you speak to her in a low voice and gently rub her beak...it's like she reverts back to her old habit. Once you remind her that is not acceptable, she relaxes and for the most part stops it all together.

How cute Beth! Sounds like Martini is settling in very well It's nice to have a bird who will go to more than one person.

My Red Bellied was a one person bird for MANY years, then when he met my husband, he became a two person bird instantly! I couldn't believe it. He can hold Robin in both hands and maul him and Robin doesn't mind. He will normally bite hard anyone else! I'm still his #1 person though.

I am so thrilled to hear an update on the beautiful Martini! I love it that she loves Dave so much (and it was great seeing the pictures of him with her!).
It's like she was out there waiting for you to bring her to her forever home with you & Dave

thanks everyone!.....I find it interesting how different she is from Safari.
even though I try very hard not to compare the two.....it would seem Martini is much for friendly but more beaky than Safari.
where Safari never beaked nor bit me ever, but only wanted to receive scritches on his terms not mine.

she adjusts extremely well while I go from room to room in the house with her on my shoulder, it doesn't phase her one bit.

so we are trying to maintain that positive attitude!!

It is hard not to compare them. I've done that a few times with my first Senegal Kelly and current Sidney. But those two are so far apart in personalities that there is no real comparison between them. It also helps that it was close to 10 years between them.

Martini sounds a lot like Kelly was. She was such a gentle and loving sweetheart. I still miss her after all that time.

I keep telling Sidney that he should channel the spirit of Kelly and learn how to be a nicer bird. He is locked up in his cage next to me at the moment so I can have a break. I look at him and those golden eyes pin. I wonder what he is thinking....

I know what you mean James...it's difficult to tell what is going on inside their head at times, other times it's really obvious.....cheeky little things aren't they?

It's hard not to compare when we have the same bird species (or dog breed) as we had before.
Personally, if I had an animal who I was very bonded with for many years, I wouldn't be able to get the same thing (I don't think I would anyway). I did however, get another Bronze Winged Pionus (Raven) after I lost Adrion after having her a year. Raven is SO much crabbier and less easy going! Could be difference in male and female as well.

Obvious right now is that he is thinking, "I'm going to chew on your shoelaces no matter where you hide your shoes!" I hear that short burst of wings then see the hoppy bouncy tail running across the floor in the direction of the front door. Here we go again.

I know Julie, I wouldn't be able to either. we use to have a big black Lab named Sanford, he died 4 years ago, and I said never again with a Lab.

I only had Safari a little over a year(we got him when he was 7 months) and he died at 1.5 years of age....

After pondering for 4 months or so, I just felt like I needed to get another sennie.....idk, I felt like I had to finish the relationship somehow, as it ended way to early.
I still miss Safari like crazy though, but Martini is helping me get on without him.
