Well, I was going to keep this under wraps just a bit longer until he was hatched and weaning, but what the heck ;)

So here's my official announcement :) I'm getting a little boy Ruppell's Parrot!!

Our new member "parrotlover1176" is also getting a baby Ruppell's from the same place (maybe our birds will be siblings?) The clutches are just hatching now! Our conversation about this is in her introduction post :)

So I just spoke to the breeder who will be hand feeding. First, a little back story - The parent birds are owned by Steve Garvin of the Feather Tree. He is one of the first breeders to establish captive Ruppell's parrots in the US. For the GCC people here, he's also pretty well known as a 'pioneer' in regard to developing new GCC mutations. If I'm not mistaken, Steve is the one who first developed the "pineapple" mutation GCC.

Gail (reputable breeder in her own right) and who will be handfeeding our babies tells me that they will be weaned and ready in approximately 11-12 weeks from hatching. I'm very excited... Seems like a long wait, but not considering I've been waiting with my deposit in since last winter even before the eggs were laid! :)

Boy, you sure have to know about genetics to get those types of birds.

what made you decide on a Ruppell?

Thanks Beth, well... I am SO hooked on the Poi's, and I've always loved rare species (whether it be birds, fish, dog breeds, etc).

To answer your other post - no, Ruppell's is one of the smaller ones like Sennie, Meyer's Red Bellied, Brown Headed. :)

Yeah, Steve sure has some crazy rare color mutations of Green Cheek Conures. He does have really long waiting lists for his conures.

Only the adult females have the blue. The males lose it as they mature and end up bi-colored. The other member parrotlover1176 ordered a female, while I wanted a male. :)

I am so happy you made your announcement! And I can't wait to see your little boy.

I think you have been waiting longer than me. I reserved my baby in early December so I understand the waiting part. It is really bad now that the babies have hatched!!

RavensGryf, you have probably looked at this already, but this is my absolute favorite Ruppell's video ever!

(I hope this is okay to post, didn't see anything in the rules about it but I will certainly remove it if it is against rules)

Thanks for sharing the YouTube vid parrotlover1176, I have seen it and I think they're extremely adorable!

Ok... sort of embarrassed here  I'm on my iPhone right now (so it's small, and harder to see stuff that's my excuse), but HOW do you post a link to a YouTube video? I'd share my personal favorite, but I don't see any address to copy/paste.

I also reserved my baby in early December, so looks like we did it at about the same time... and here we are, small world.

The awaiting online parrot Aunties!! lol :D

The breeder who will be hand feeding our Ruppell's (is SWAMPED:52:) and is personally feeding 100(?) of different species, I think she said 100 (is that possible?) by herself. So I doubt she'd have 'time' to take pics. I will ask her when I speak to her next, but technically, we're supposed to pay for professional quality photos taken at whatever stage, and I didn't want to send any extra money. She is not a "home backyard" breeder, but runs a big operation. A closed 'disease free' aviary which has been well known and successful since the 1970's. She recently scaled down and cut back staff, so that's what's going on right now.
But yeah, I want to see pics too!

There should be an address at the very top (the internet browser space) to copy and paste. I did the link from my iPhone too. I would love to see your favorite.

I did pay for the picture. But it will be some time after she is fully feathered. But yeah, I am not expecting a lot of picture updates with as busy as she is!

I'd actually like a baby pic of Griffin too. I actually kept thinking it might be nice. Maybe I should send her the $7.50. Just another thing for her to remember to do being swamped and all.

Ok I will try the You Tube again

Sorry, but for some reason on my phone, I'm not getting ANY address in the internet browser space. Even there it just says YouTube.com. I know what you mean though. There is usually a long address at the top of the browser on a computer. I'll see later if it works on my iPad. If not, tomorrow when I have a computer :)

Hi! I was just wondering if you've heard anything recently? The wait is killing me but I know Gail is very busy so I haven't talked to her. I wonder if we have our babies assigned yet. I am so excited!
