I finally have a picture to share of the Ruppell's baby I am getting! There was only one girl out of a whole bunch of babies tested. Her hatch date is 4/7/14, so I should be getting her in a month or so.

RavensGryf (Julie) who is getting a little boy unfortunately still has not received a picture of her little guy but should be getting him soon.

Here she is, her name is Nova

Thanks everyone! Yes, I am super excited. Like Julie, I have been waiting for a baby since December so I have been waiting a long time!

Chadwick, since they are rare and rarely kept as pets there isn't a lot of information about Ruppell's as pets, but from what I gather I would say their temperament is somewhere in between the Senegal and Meyers. Julie may have more information on their personality.

Aww, Nova is super cute!!! :)

My male Ruppell's baby Griffin, I am thinking is probably from a slightly earlier clutch than Nova?
As mentioned, I STILL DON'T HAVE ANY PICS OF HIM!!! :( She is just too busy I guess. I think it was hard for her to get Nova's pic too!

@ Chadwick:
Although all of the smaller Poicephalus are 'basically' the same as far as general characteristics go. The Ruppell's is said to be even quieter than your average (already quiet) Poi! Although ALL the Poi's can be feisty, they're said to be generally speaking, more along the lines of the milder Meyer's or Brown Headed, and don't have the reputation of the often hot headed Senegal, or my Red Bellied.

I thought about getting one long before this, but to be honest, the more 'plain' color sort of deterred me at first. Then when it came time I felt like putting another deposit on a bird, after some long thought about it... I realized I absolutely LOVE the Poicephalus genus (especially the smaller species of them), and with everything I love about Robin, plus my love for rare species, I thought it was the best choice for me personally.

Congrats on Nova! Can't wait til we can share and compare pics as our girl and boy babies grow and change! :)

Side note: The babies are 'plain' but the adult female (Nova) gets the yellow shoulder caps and legs, with a brilliant blue lower abdomen and vent. Adult males (Griffin) also get the yellow shoulder caps and legs, but are gray otherwise. The female of the species is the more colorful with the pretty blue, though the bi-color males are beautiful.

Thank everyone! I am very excited. Julie, I can't wait until we can compare as they grow.

I hope Julie has a pic of Griffin to share soon, but I had to be a little pushy to get my pic which is why I actually have one to share!

And thanks, witchbaby, I thought the name really suits her. :)

SO cute!! :D It's so interesting to me how Nova and my Griffin are such a different "baby color". She already had a lot of blue it looks like!

It is interesting how different they are. I wonder if she will lose the blue before she gets her adult blue back again. It will be fun watching them grow and change!
