Lots of things have happened, but overall happy

It happened in the blink of an eye: somehow the little door of the food bowl didn't properly close (at least, that's what we think happened), and they found out after an hour or so. Given that they had full use of their wings, and one door was open, Jenny got away. Day and days (and nights) of searching outside, calling her, alerting neighbours, all in vain... she got away.

Needless to say - after all that happened with our first two Senegals - we were pretty heart broken, and I was very angry at myself. We were also afraid that Oscar, who was cornered by our two labradors (who didn't have any intention to hurt him and alerted me of the situation...) and thus didn't escape, would become very lonely without his little sister.

Nothing ever goes the way it's planned, and he actually seemed to love being the single bird from day one. He became much more attached to us, and seemed happy not being bullied by his sister (who had constantly plucked his little head, so he looked a tad bold). As cold as it sounds, I don't think he missed her once.

He's one year old now, and he (holding wood) is as sweet as a bird can be. Although he clearly prefers my wife who is his "sugar daddy", he is also very fond of me too, and we can play and chill for hours. He's a great talker, and even tries to construct full sentences that have an actual meaning (like "Oscar play outside?" when he wants to leave his cage - he only does that when it's time, and he never says it when he's already outside. He even does the little inflection at the end to make it a question).

Apart from on average 2 nips a session (which we see coming from a mile away), he is constantly yapping (I mean talking) at us, giving kisses (including the sound), and is very careful around our heads. We even have to hold off a little bit as sweet talking to him makes him dry heave very quickly - which apparently is a real sign that he likes us.

He's happy when he's alone, and he's happy when we are around, or the dogs, cats... He is not afraid of the cats nor dogs at all, and we sometimes let him out when one of the two dogs is around to let them get used to each other. He laughs and giggles a lot, which makes it very hard to be mad at him when he does decide to test our patience.

He talks with two voices: sometimes he imitates mine, at other times my wife's. He gives more kisses to me, but dances for my wife. In other words, he associates certain sounds and rituals with different people.

I don't think that there's anything more relaxing than a parrot on your finger slowly falling asleep, making his grinding noises, fluffing up, fluttering his eyelashes, and raising one foot.

No doubt this will change when he reaches puberty, but so far he is an extremely funny and amiable companion. Needless to say we double check the latches these days...

I am so sorry for your loss of Jenny:( Hopefully someone wonderful found her and took her in and she is doing as well as Oscar is.
Sounds like he is really enjoying being an only bird:) I'd love to see pictures!

Thanks. :)

He continues to amaze us. His vocabulary is improving rapidly, and sometimes he even uses sentences ("Oscar wants a treat?") which I didn't expect.

Still very sweet 95% of the time. A soothing voice and staying calm helps when he is nervous, and brings him "back" very quickly.

I also have a brother and sister sennie, though they are kept in separate cages and I don't let them interact as I have no doubt they'd gladly kill each other.

My male, Sydney, sounds a lot like yours. He's quite the chatter box. My two will be 2 in May.
