Senegal - Kesha
Today I became the proud mommy of a 19yr old Senegal named Kesha. Her previous owner is sick and doesn't want her anymore. I'm fairly new to bird ownership, so hopefully I've come to the right place for all things bird! ;)

Kesha is fairly friendly. She also knows some words. But I'm afraid her cage is slightly cramped and her toys have seen better days. Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction for a new cage and accessories? Also, what is the best food for her? The previous owner was giving her mixed bird seeds and said she gives her fruit and things on the side.

I'm sure I'll have plenty more questions and really look forward to learning more.

Welcome Aleisha! A dye free pellet diet is much healthier than mixed seeds. You can switch her over gradually. Fruits and veggies on the side is great with special treats of seeds and other fatty things. You can get some great toys at Petsmart and they are having a but two get one free sale right now. What size cage is your new baby in now?

I'll have to take a pic of the cage tomorrow. It's not tiny. But seems line it could be bigger. I'd say it's about 1 1/2 ft wide by 3ft high...maybe?

Hello, Welcome to you and Kesha, she's adorable.

There are so many cages to choose from. You may want to browse online before you buy just to get an idea what's available. This link has previous discussions on cages to help you narrow down the list.

Cages - Parrot Forum - Parrot Owner's Community

According to the individual bird, at the age of 19, she may not readily accept new foods at first, but with patience you can ease her into a healthier diet. Here's two helpful links.

I think you'll find lots of information just by browsing the forums when you have the time. Feel free to ask any questions you need answered.

Enjoy your new bird and your stay on the forum.
