That sweet cute little precious thing bit the crap out of my ear. My hubby just came home and I was telling him how sweet she was when she latched on to my ear and wouldn't let go! I had to pry her tiny beak off.
It's like she knew I was saying she was good and thought it would be funny.
Birdie got jokes!
The tip broke the skin a little. I didn't jump or scream, I just reached up to get her and that's when I realized she wasn't letting go. So I gently put my fingers on her beak to open it a little and eventually was able to slide my ear out. Maybe I should name her snapping turtle!

Welcome to the wonderful world of parrots. You have just passed your first test with Miss Snappy:D Sounds like you handled the bite well (didn't panic, yell, freak out ext...) and calmly pried her off. These things happen, especially when a bird is new. She is testing her boundaries with you. No reaction (or as little as possible) to the bite itself followed by a time out should show her it is not an acceptable for of communication. Also, your shoulder is not your birds "rightful" place to be (as much as she wants to be up there). Shouldering is a PRIVILEGE a bird must EARN by being well behaved, bonded and being unlikely to bite. As you found out, theres a lot of sensitive areas on and around your face. Keep her off your shoulder until she is better trained and more trustworthy.

Ouch! So sorry, but the first sentence in your post cracked me up. You are officially one of the bitten. It happens. You handled it well.

I fully agree with Kiwibird and SoCalWendy, your shoulder and close proximity to your face should only be earned privileges.

You did a good job with how you handled it. It is certainly hard to make shoulders off limits until your bird has learned what is acceptable and what is not but in the long run it is for the best. I've gotten so that I can trust Sidney up there for short periods depending on his mood. But if he is being the slightest bit nippy my shoulders become a forbidden zone.

Gotta love it! I have had my ear, cheek, and lip pierced, not at the same time! And this was from the bird that chose me as her mate!

I got bit 3 times today in less than 10 seconds but it was my red eared sliders. I was hand feeding them and they kept missing. When one bit a finger that didn't even have food I gave up. :)

Newbsi, are you waiting for a gender test before naming the sweet little precious one? You can't continue to refer to a sentient being as an 'it'.

How's your ear?

Well, in our house "it" is an endearing term. I call my children it's. We say... Looooove it...
Anyhow, we are strange :p

How's your ear?
My ear was sore last night. I had always wanted a piercing there anyway!

I have been writing names down all day. Gender doesn't matter to me. Although I will have the vet check because I'm curious. But I wouldn't care if the name matched the gender

Can you take a frontal picture of him/her?

Hasn't molted yet, so I'm not sure that would matter.

For reference:

Female

Male

These are my birds. You can see the male has solid yellow in the vent area and the hen has green.
