Your Senegals talking?

I would LOVE to see videos of your Sennies talking. Could you also tell me how old they are and when they started making words?

My hen was talking the first week I brought her home. She was 4 months old. My male is a much better talker though now.

Wow. I didnt think a Sennie would talk so soon.
LOL! Last night my husband comes home from work, I had already put Gollum to bed (7pm is his bedtime or he turns into Oscar the Grouch). When my husband gets to the top of the stairs he freezes. I asked what was wrong. He turns around and listens and says Hello?
I ask again. He said I thought I heard someone say Hello, I think the Parrot said Hello. I said he is too young! He cant talk yet! I laughed at him. (besides... I do not say hello, I say HI DARLIN, HI). I think the hubby has been working too much lately

Albert stated talking (clearly) around 6 months or so, but even at nearly 10 months he only says about 5 phrases (though he's picked up a boatload of noises). Hopefully he ends up knowing more, because he has the sweetest voice, surprisingly non-robotic, which seems to be more common among Pois.

Yeah, Sydney has a large vocabulary, but his voice is very robotic except when he says, "Peekaboo" and "Peekabird" and that's in the sweetest voice.

My Sidney only says a barely understandable "pretty bird" on rare occasions. He was about 5 years when I adopted him and not interacted with people much during his life from what I was able to learn. The other human noise he makes is a version of me coughing that sounds like he is hacking out his dying breath. He is a very accomplished in whistles, farts, pbbbbt, droid (R2D2), microwave, toaster oven, squeaky door, fire alarm, pop can opening and used to be quite fluent in quaker parrot though that has faded over time.

When I covered golems cage tonight, he made some strange noises. It sounded like something reeeeeally creepy trying to talk. I have not heard him make those kind of noises or in that tone at all before. I usually cover him and walk out of the room but tonight I stayed in the room a few minutes. Once I peeked back in to
Make sure there were no glowing eyes peering at me, he stopped. Lol maybe my husband did hear him trying to speak last night.

I'm not sure how old Robin was when he first started talking... We'll be celebrating his 21st birthday Friday, and I've had him that long, so I just don't remember that long ago lol. But like Albert, he only says a handful of words, and usually not very clearly (though my favorite is "I love you"), while he makes many different noises. He still picks up new noises to this day, so they're never too old. Robin does have the robotic voice. He has a deep voice lol.

Griffin is 17 months old and isn't a talker. He isn't a noise mimicker either. He's extremely quiet. In fact, he's the quietest parrot I have ever heard of or witnessed. He really is only vocal in the morning when he first wakes up, and even at that, his volume is quiet. Just cute peeps, squeaks, soft chattering sounds. He does (rarely) say Hi or Good Boy, but ONLY when still under the cover in the morning. When he first said it I think he was close to a year old. He will say "Hey!!" when Raven is picking on him. I find it absolutely hilarious that his little voice sounds like Ralphie from the Simpsons. It's adorable for a parrot lol.

It's interesting how the two Pois have very different sounding voices, and they both grew up with me as the main person around them. Robin is robotic and deep, Griffin is clear and high pitched.

I don't have subtitles (it's in Dutch) and some of the sounds only make sense if you know it's doors creaking, my wife coughing etc. This is just his midday routine talking to himself.

At one point he puts his head into his bowl as he knows it works as a megaphone.

The most surprising moment was still the first time he made a recognizable sound, when he flew towards my wife, and I heard her laughing. Only to see her face being still. It took me 10 seconds to realize he had silently mastered her laughter pitch perfect.

He's still learning new words and sentences - some of them are combinations he "invented" on his own. "Oscar wants candy" and "Can I have candy" are not sentences we use, but we do say "can I have a kiss", so he substitutes "kiss" for "candy". He also uses them in context ("Oscar tired" and "Goodnight", "Play outside"), and some words he does both in my wife's voice and my voice (which is hilarious as he tries to imitate my deep voice)

In between his sessions (and our back and forth sessions) he can be quiet for hours on end too (fortunately...)

Oscar sounds great! How old is he? Adorable!

He will be 2 in September. At first he was with his sister, but those who followed my horror stories know she escaped (my mistake obviously). He had never made a sound, but started talking very shortly after she went missing, which is not illogical.

Despite all the situations we had (the 2 first ones had a deadly virus from birth, nothing we could do), we simply adore Oscar.

BTW I just heard him use a new word... he was shouting "Edie!" at a dog named... Edie, who wanted to go out for a pee. (back door is next to his cage). I don't think he stopped learning yet.

Forgot to answer this: I was highly amazed at how clear and defined the words come out, with the right inflections etc. I was used to hearing parrots like Einstein, and while they are obviously in another league when it comes to vocabulary and sounds, they don't sound as "human".

Sometimes he gets sloppy so we start repeating those words again, and he picks it up and improves his pronunciation. (It's almost like I'm talking about my kids. )
