Could I be feeding Gollum too much? Its chop. But he will eat for like 30 minutes. Does it normally take that long for them to eat?

My Dexter eats like that when I first put his morning and evening meal in the cage. Then he continues to pick at it for the rest of the day. Sometimes I even find him nibbling when it's bedtime.

Albert got faster and faster at eating as he weaned. During his transition periods it would take him up to 90 minutes to finish eating. Now his end of day meals are ~20m.

I thought I might add a question about eye color too. When do the eyes change or lighten at least. Still trying to learn her behaviors and eye pinning is a good sign but her eyes are almost black. If you get really close you can tell they are a dark gray.

It takes Kyo over an hour to eat her chop in the morning. She likes to play between bites so she takes forever.

Completely normal, birds will eat a good amount in the morning and in the evening. So as long as she is getting chop at those times, your doing a great job with her. Don't forget to give her peppers too, they love them, seeds and all.

Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)

That would be my Lilac Crowned Amazon... only she eats for hours on end it seems... It's a wonder she isn't completely round at this point...

Measure the amount you give them, and don't overfeed.

(Yeah, that works with my bird, she just waddles over to the macaw leftovers. Then the other macaw leftovers.)

I thought of something else. Are you weighing Golum? If you are able get yourself a digital scale that has a gram setting. I got mine at Walmart. Normal weights for Senegal's are 120 to 170 g. (4.2-6.0 oz.)

Yes she gets chop in the morning and evening. Fresh veggies and fruit during the day for snack. I might give her a slice of apple, baby carrot or green bean for snack around my lunch time. So she has something to eat while I am eating. (today she decided she didnt want hers, she wanted mine LOL, I had to put her in her cage so I could eat :p )

I am actually going to have to make my FIRST chop tomorrow. THe breeder had given me a couple bags of frozen chop but I only have enough left for a day maybe two.
The only thing you COOK is the quinoa, rice or whole wheat pasta... is that right? Veggies are just cut up and put in after the fact, not cooked.

I havent given her peppers yet. Are peppers just another veggie option or is that something I should make a point to put in her chop or snack? Is there something about peppers she needs?

Sorry for all the questions

I personally would never cook the veggies. Some people do, but I do not. I add after. You can add peppers or give them as a treat, your call. When I am making a salad and add bell pepper I away a give some along with the seeds. Same with jalapeño peppers.

I agree it sounds normal. Pumpkin gets cooked bird food every morning for breakfast and he will sit next to his bowl for about 30 minutes.

No, I do not have a scale. I was not sure if I should get the kind from walmart or if the kind with the perch is what I needed

If you are putting in beans, they must also be soaked overnight and cooked.

I just made my first batch of chop, so I'm no expert, but I also cooked the barley, amaranth and spelt. I cooled down the beans, rice and cooked grains before adding the veggies, so the veg would stay crunchy.

I loosely followed a recipe and I had NO IDEA how much it was going to make. I think I've got enough frozen chop to last for months!

Sweet potato should be cooked.
I put peppers in all of my chops along with about every other veg known to man :)
