Peanut made friends

This little squirrel keeps waiting at my front door and following me around. It's so friendly so I let Peanut meet him. They seemed to hit it off. I won't be making a habit of it though. I don't need a pet squirrel.

That is so cute! They certainly are giving each other the once over trying to figure out what the other one is!

Uhg...yeah, I'd be more worried about the dozens and dozens of ticks it's covered in, not to mention fleas too. It's more of a worry that you'll carry them into your house accidentally, as they attach to you and the bird easily, and it only takes a couple fleas to end up in a million fleas...Every squirrel, rabbit, chipmunk, groundhog, etc. that I've ever had brought into the rescue by someone has been coated in both ticks and fleas...and sometimes mange (a lot of squirrels are extremely friendly BTW)

Not to mention it's still a wild animal. No matter how friendly it appears initially wild animals are gonna be unpredictable.

Yeah I know which is why I said I'm not going to make a habit of it. But I've already kind of did that, it's hard to resist petting it when it's waiting at my door every morning and is super friendly. I'm going to buy a squirrel feeder and maybe that will keep it in the tree and away from my porch.

I'm so glad you're gonna stop while you're ahead. Ticks... aggression... bacteria... scary!
Good for you!

I will not be doing it anymore, throwing that little stinker to the curb.

Aww, nice you had a camera handy! How old is Peanut?

Peanut is only one years old and the squirrel appears to be young too. They play with each other along the screen of my porch. And when I open up the door the squirrel comes right in.

He's kind of decided he's my pet now. I don't let him near Peanut anymore even though he's really sweet and she's more likely to bite him, but he constantly wants to come in now. I know he's a rodent and they can carry certain diseases, but he's so cute.

His name is Daisy and he comes when I call him. My daughter named him that before I noticed he was a boy. I don't leave Peanut unattended on the porch so there's no chance he'd get in there and hurt her or anything. He just loves nutriberries and hanging out.
