"Fly free, little ones. Love and miss you."
I live in east Tennessee and there was a 4.4 magnitude earthquake about 10 miles or so from my house shortly after 4 am, Dec 12. I didn't feel it but I heard Sidney go into a night fright. I jumped up, flipped the lights on and calmed him down like I have before on the rare times he has had one. Worked as normal so I went back to bed. After I got him up at a normal time later, I noted a couple of clipped primary feathers outside of his cage and thought that I'd be having to reclip him in a couple of weeks. I took him into the kitchen to prepare birdie breakfasts and popped him into a cabinet to play. He loves exploring them. After he got bored he tried to fly down to the kitchen to the floor. Flutter, flutter, THUMP! Not hurt, fortunately. I got him to let me open his wings and found that every single primary feather was gone. I checked his cage and they were mostly in the bottom under the grate. Looks like I'm going to have to be careful about him being anywhere high for a while. Fortunately, he knows he can't fly now. Instead of launching from his cage to come to me, I watched him climb down his cage, walk over end table to the couch, then he climbed down it to get to the floor and walked. Silly creature.
