I let Peanut grow in her flight feathers

She loved it of course, birds are meant to fly. Well after thinking I could be extremely careful she still managed to get out the door and a chicken hawk immediately went after her in the trees. It was also pouring raining out at the time so all I saw was the hawk after her and both flying into one of the many trees on the other side of the street. I've spent hours looking for her, but she's a small green parrot and there are hundreds of trees. I'm 99 percent sure the hawk got her, the other 1 percent is holding out hope for some kind of miracle. I'm devastated and hate myself. Of course when I told my husband and kids, the first thing they said is I told you not to let her fly. Well what's done is done and I suck. Dont even know what to do other than cry

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
My deepest condolences for what is likely the loss of Peanut. While it is possible she survived, your goals were well intended. Allow yourself to grieve and focus on the sweet memories.

So sorry for your loss Sandy19. Grieve as Scott recommended and take it easy on yourself. I recently read of someone loosing their parrot because they stepped on it - a non-flighted bird who had been with the family a very long time. Accidents happen despite our best efforts to protect our fids. Perhaps your family were used to looking for your fid on the floor but changing the habit of watching for a fid to FLY out the door takes time. Please ensure that your entire family accept the loss without blaming anyone. You need each other in this time of grief.

Well my 1% chance came true, someone posted her picture on FB last night. It was the guitar player at an outside restaurant. He said she flew on the roof and just sat there all night and was still there when he left. He posted pictures, it was definitly her. I was for sure that stupid chicken hawk got her as it was an inch away from her when they dissapeared into the trees. Now I have another 1% chance of finding her, but at least there is hope now.

So she's been in the area for two days now unharmed, is there anything you would suggest doing other than putting her cage outside with food, searching endlessly, alerting the internet and putting out flyers?

Some folks suggest bringing the cage outside with food and water. Seek permission if Peanut is in a specific area. Being on scene at first light while she is hungry might be good strategy.

No I don't know what to do anymore other than hope she gets hungry and goes to someone and they report it. I'm still looking though. That's all I've been doing, I need to clean my house, it looks like a tornadoes went through it.

Someone posted on the FB lost and found that they saw a guy walking from the beach and across the street towards a neighborhood with a bird that looked just like peanut.
She noticed because it was unusual to see. I live a block away from the beach and the place where she saw the guy is about a mile from me. It's possible the bird belonged to him, but do people normally takes their birds for walks on the beach? The beach is always windy and they could get caught in the wind even clipped.

Hmmm, that's interesting. Why would someone post on the Lost & Found page without knowing for sure it wasn't that guys bird?

After you look into it, please let us know.
I'm praying it is indeed Peanut.

I believe I found her. Someone turned in a senegal parrot to the humane society yesterday. A picture is on their website. I'm in central Florida where hurricane Dorian is currently at, however. So I can't get through to them or safely drive there until the storm passes.
