I saw that article to Sue. But I'm not sure how accurate it is. A lady who owns a male and a female Senegal looked at Tiki last Thursday and right away said that Tiki is a female due to the tail coverts being all green without a hint of yellow. But the lady that I got Tiki from told me that when she bought Tiki from the breeder, he told her Tiki was a male. So who knows. I'm not concerned with it myself unless I wanted to breed he/she.

From what I have heard and read, 3 years seems to be the puberty or sexually mature age for breeding and such as far as Senegals. But again, this could be subjective as well.

i'm going to stop looking into sites :( looked at preloved, ppl selling on there pets etc an in the senegal section, there's way to many! and some of the discriptions just make me angry at current owners grrr *will take food from hand??? and seriously that was it!!!

i am sure this is a on going problem with these birds as they live so long, but when you 1st come across all these birds needing new homes, its a shock to the system! and i am glad i took nut in, i'd hate to think what would have been in stall for her :(
yes she is going through a difficult time, with coming into season and having no mate! so she is acting out, so between november to feb she's gonna be all beak?? and near bald?? looking all moth eaten :( so be it!

grrrr rant over......(for now)

i thought tiki was a female ages ago from your stories of how she bonded to you! unless the breeder dna sexed her, he won't have known?? but i am not sure our birds are old enough for the visual sexing yet??
though the breeder i spoke to did stress not to stroke nut down her back, belly when she is in season! and if its thats strong, not to be surprised if she lays! so thats cosy-huts outta the window!

Hey Sue, here is Tiki from the back end. It sure looks like the one in article for the female.
