Hello all i have a new quaker parrot names emie
male( last owner got him as a female but later found him to be male so they put him in an aviary outside ) last week i went to visit as they have lots of diferent parrots and i had not made my mind up , as we walked through the pens to see the diferent birds this little chap flew up to me and said hi and started to dance , so he came home with me  i had no idea how he would take to being in a home after the aviary for well over a year allthough he had been hand reared as a baby .
Well hes a little darling :) LOVES to sit on your shoulder and constantley gives kisses but hates men , he will fly at my OH and land on and bite him so we had to buy him a huge cage he stays in while OH is at home ,im strugling to find toys and pertches for him as his feet are so small but hes quite a big chap and strong so the smaller tiel toys would be destroid within minutes .
so any advice on toys welcome .
I dont think he is to loud compared to my zon oscar  but his talking is hard to understand and he laughts when hes been told no

Greetings to Ernie-- it's always nice to welcome another Quaker to the flock. :)

Quakers have the reputation for sometimes being "one-person birds." But they can learn to like, or at least tolerate, other people. A little time and patience will be needed to start with. Your OH might try sitting a short distance away from Ernie's cage and talking softly to Ernie, or reading to him. He could also try offering Ernie some favorite treats, while Ernie is in his cage.

In time, you'll probably become accustomed to Ernie's speech and will be able to understand him better.

If Ernie likes destroying toys, then give him some that are meant to be destroyed-- things he can chew up or tear apart. They needn't be actual toys-- things like plastic drinking straws or wooden ice cream sticks work well. Acrylic toys might be a good choice if you want something harder to destroy.
