Wing Clipping

Just wondering if anyone can give me a bit of advice. I've recently gotten a blue quaker, his wings were clipped when I got him and they seem to be very short. He can't fly any distance at all and it's making him very nervous to step up. Is there anything I can do?

Was he handfed and finger trained in the first place???

Would he mind you steadying him by putting a hand on his back?

I hope they didn't cut the toe nails as well... Baby birds need them to hang on...

We were told he was hand tame but in actual fact he was in a cage in the house and the guy I got him from spoke to him in the morning and evening. He left him out of the cage to play as well but I think he clipped his wings so short so he wouldn't have to chase him around to get him back in the cage. I've tried putting my hand over his back to steady him but he still seems very nervous. I'm thinking about making a play area for him that's closer to the ground so that might give him a bit more confidence, hopefully it will work.

He's nervous because your new to him. And YES with my Quaker I had to clip his wings to get him back inside his cage cause he wouldn't stop flying off when I'm trying to put him up. He's a escape artist too even though we have most doors tied off, he still figures out a way to get out. They're wonderful birds really, but it will just take some time to get him used to you. It took me a bit to get Cracker to get used to me cause he was living with my family who adores him dearly. I handfed him and raised him myself. My family didn't used to like birds but Cracker was such a intelligent bird that my family fell in love with him. They took care of him when I moved an hour away and didn't have a stable place to put him until I found a stable home instead of a apartment, family didn't want him to go for awhile until when they were moving closer to me then they were willing to let him come home to me. I miss mine dearly as he was killed by one of the dogs we've rescued, he escaped his cage and jumped towards me when I was only 3 foot away, but the dog got to him first before I could and ran off with him. It shattered me completely. Quakers are really intelligent loving birds, you will love him dearly for sure!!!!
