I'm not sure how much luck you could have teaching her to stay on the cage. It certainly is possible, but it could take quite a bit of work and it may be more reasonable to compromise your expectations a little. Is it unsafe for her on the floor? Could it be made safe? Also, when she jumps off the cage is she coming towards you or other family members?

If you want there are certainly ways to encourage her to stay on the cage to a degree, but completely... its rather like telling a 6 year old to sit in their desk all day and not leave - you may do a lot of training, offer rewards, and appropriate punishments, but the expectation just may not be realistic.

Anyhow, consider if you really need her to stay there - or maybe if she could have other acceptable perching places but the floor would still be off limits. Then we can come up with the right methods to get her to stick to the rules.

her cage is very close to me on the coach.I can touch er often if she is sitting on the cage door but when Im busy or ignore her then she jumps. If im in the other room she will jump to find me.Its sweet but im scared she will get hurt. She really dont seem to like anyone else in the house. she'l bite them sometimes.she gets alot of att. from me being a stay at home mom. I do put treats up on top when Im busy in the other room or new toys to keep her busy but when she notice im gone she jumps.i do put her up sometimes but not all ways...im not always gone long..im right back w her.what am i doing wroung??

I don't think you're doing anything "wrong", but there are some things that are very hard to train. You cannot train a pig to fly (short of using a catapult!) and you cannot train a bird to stay away from their person if they have the option to go to them.

Could you bring her with you? Will she perch well on your arm or shoulder? If you are going to go to the other room bring her with you. If you will be there for a while have another perch for her there.

If you need to get something done in the home and she cannot be with you then perhaps she needs to go back in the cage for that time.

So all in all I think some playstands/perches in other rooms and getting used to taking her with you would be your best bet if this could be done.

My little clingon likes to ride inside my shirt sometimes (as seen in the picture) when I'm going around doing household chores. Most of the time he's on my shoulder or hand but sometimes he crawls inside my shirt to ride. It doesn't matter who's home, I'm his favorite person and he's decided that he's coming with me where ever I go. I'm really looking forward to summer so we can hang out outside! :smile006:
