!! Help on sneezing parrot?

Ever since I've gotten him my parrot has sneezed a quite a bit. Stuff comes out too. When he sneezes he gets a clear liquid on me. I don't know if this comes from his beak or from his nostrils because I don't see any snot or any moisture around them..

I brought him to the avian vet about this 2 or so months ago and she said that he was completely healthy. She said he had no inflamation and nothing was wrong. I told her about stuff coming out and that when he sneezes he gets a clear fluid on me, and then she said "ewww!" and laughed.

Do you think my bird could be allergic to something? He hasn't gotten any worse or better over the time I've had him. I'm mostly worried because there seems to be discharge, but I guess this could be coming from inside his beak? Like when people don't cover their mouths and they blow spit everywhere.

Oh and when I told her he was sneezing excessively she said "is he really sneezing excessively? All birds sneeze" or something like that. I think he sneezes every hour or so but when he sneezes he sometimes sneezes twice in a row. It might just seem like a lot because I have him out with me for hours at a time.

I'm not sure because the vet said nothing was wrong. What do you guys think?

Thanks!

EDIT:: he just sneezed and this time I saw a clear fluid on his beak under his nostrils! Should I take him back to vet? It has been about 2 months since my last visit. I'm getting worried..

And I just realized I should probably have put this in the General Health section of the forums. Sorry

Does he sneeze when playing or chewing on toys ? My girls sneeze when they are chewing on planet pleasures toys, and will do it repeatedly while destroying the toy. I think tiny bits get in their nose or back of throat and they are clearing it out.

Sorry but that's all the help I have. I have never had any bird sneeze out something on me, but I am not saying that it is odd that yours does, I just haven't experienced it.

Also, is the air in your house dry right now ? Or are you using a humidifier ?

It might be dry as we do use humidifiers but I haven't used one in 2 days. And he does sometimes sneeze when playing.

He just sneezed right now and I can see a clear fluid on his beak under his nostrils. I've never seen this before but now I'm freaking out a little.. Crapp should I take him to the vet again guys??

I've had Piper for almost 6 months and the only time I hear her sneeze is when she takes a bath. But I also work one full time job and one part time job so sometimes I only spend 2-3 hours a day with her and sometimes all day depending on my schedule.

Is your avian vet fresh out of vet school or does she have years of experience? To me, she sounds like a newbie and not a seasoned vet.

Re: !! Help on sneezing parrot?

I would definitely at least call your vet and let them know it's an ongoing issue along with the details you just gave us.

Chili sneezes occasionally, and sometimes she does it after drinking water which then gets flicked all over ME lol

I have never heard any bird of mine sneeze and I didn't know birds could sneeze. Learn something new every day. Didn't you once say, Blue, that your bird was particularly 'dusty'? Maybe it's sneezing because of bird dander on it's head that is falling down onto it's face? I do know that my one brother had dandruff in his eyebrows and that it made his eyes red. Regardless it probably is a good idea to at least call the vet and mention the discharge.

You could also go to a different AVet for a second opinion if you feel your current AVet is overlooking something or brushing it off.

Birds sneeze if they feel dust or particulates on or in their nostrils. So question, do you smoke? Use scented products on your person? Humidifiers help a lot with dryness. Is he bathing daily? They get full of dust as well and need regular baths. If you're not seeing colored or opaque fluid coming out I wouldn't worry. If your home is prone to dust, you may want to invest in a quality air filter. It will help you as well:)

Yep, I took my amazon in last year for sneezing and that is what the vet said.
Sneezing can occur due to low humidity, dust, allergies as long as there is no fluid or just clear fluid it is nothing to be concerned about.
More frequent bathing helps also if the air is dry a humidifier.

If the fluid is yellow, white, green or thick in any way it is a sign of infection and he should be seen by a vet.

Scented dryer sheets and fabric softener can also be an irritant around clothes

i might take him in if he has discharge. cooper sneezes when chewing yukka wood(really soft, spongy, and dusty), but when he is done playing he is fine, but if yours keeps continuing take him in.

Thanks everyone for your input. Rocky actually hasn't sneezed for a few hours so I must have been overreacting. I'm calling the vet tomorrow. I'm thinking maybe he had water in his nostrils, or dandruff. I will be giving him more showers for now on. They have been only weekly on the weekends but I will definitely start giving him a bath every day or every other day atleast. I'm getting one of those shower perches too so he can shower with me.

@GaryBV, no that was someone else with the dusty quaker, but yea I think it might be dandruff causing his sneezing.

@Kalidasa, thanks for the info. I don't smoke but our house may be dusty. Ill look for an air filter ASAP.

As for air filters, if you have a forced air furnace or if you are in an apartment, if you have control of the forced air furnace, you can buy filters that have different ratings that can catch dust, dander, even smoke. I had bought a 6 pack of these and they worked well (but are expensive):

[ame=http://www.amazon.com/Filtrete-Allergen-Reduction-16-Inch-20-Inch/dp/B005F5D5WK/ref=sr_1_8?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1386135941&sr=1-8&keywords=furnace+filter]Filtrete Elite Allergen Reduction Filter, 2200 MPR, 16-Inch by 20-Inch by 1-Inch, 2-Pack - Amazon.com[/ame]

They were too expensive for me to use every month so now I buy these ones - same company, just not rated as highly but they work very well:

[ame=http://www.amazon.com/Filtrete-Allergen-Reduction-16-Inch-25-Inch/dp/B000KERAY0/ref=sr_1_2?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1386136104&sr=1-2&keywords=furnace+filter]Filtrete Micro Allergen Reduction Filter, 1000 MPR, 16-Inch by 25-Inch by 1-Inch, 6-Pack - Amazon.com[/ame]

If you have radiator heat or baseboard heat, etc., not forced air, you can buy those stand alone units although I have never used one. I do know that this time of year my house gets very dry (my humdity at the moment is in the low 20s) but I have less dust if I run the humidifier.

i was really confused when my Tuukee would sneeze. but then i read that having candles or air fresheners, they can harm the birds... depending on how close they are place to the birds crib, or if there are a lot around your place. i moved them from close to futher away, and he was much better. also incenses are really really bad. too much smoke. but Tuukee is better even w candles burning.

************************** ON YOUTUBE LOOK UP BLUE SICK QUAKER... IT'LL HELP GIVE AN IDEA WHAT AN ILL BABY LOOKS AND ACTS LIKE.

Tuukee still sneezes all the time but its not gooey or too textured. from what i've read clear snot is actually really healthy. Tuukee still sneezes on the back of my neck lol... pretty much on me any and all the time- if he sneezes. if yor baby is fluffy and the feathers dont go down, the bird may be ill. however if the bird sneezes and still acts like a happy healthy bird... im pretty positive your baby id A-OKAY!!! i know when you dont know what a sick bird looks like there is a lot of worry and stress. but if he/she is still your perfect squawker even with all the sneezing - it may be trait that's unique to your lil one!!!

good luck, and pls keep us posted!!!
