Wild to the sweetest thing in my life.

Well... I am new to this forum and figure I will be a regular, that is with my Quaker on one of the two hands I am currently typing on. She is my baby and happily named Leda. My blue Quaker that only loves me and shows epic ferocity towards others.

Now that said this was the sister of another Blue Quaker that I bought from a local breeder. The main goal of this breeder was to allow the customer to hand wean (feed with a syringe) and allow the customer that motherly feeling with the bird. which would come naturally from hand weaning.

Nature had it that my first female Blue Quaker had a bad repository infection that I could not fix on my own. I took my baby back to the breeder and had him take care of her. But she decided she had enough and passed. Fortunately I was able to get one of her sisters as a "replacement" (I hate that word in this context). The downside was her sister was basically a Wild bird left in a cage with 50-100 other parrots. After which when she was pulled out of the cage she was chased by hands for atleast 10-20 mins... This has been an ongoing battle. She loves my face but is not very accepting of my hands even to this day. (Imagine that.. I suspect the treatment at an early age to affect this).

When I got her home from the breeder I left her cage door open. (you know quarantine and all) With me sitting 5 feet away on the edge of my bed (As I have always had good luck with them feathered ones, they just seem to love me) Ms. Leda came flying (I will never take the right of flight from a bird) over to me within 24 hours as I was about to leave the room/house to smoke a cigarette. (I know its bad, I don't make my animals suffer and I at least go outside). I am confident that I could do the same with a fully wild bird (I WANT a Crow badly.... So badly, but state laws say NO so yea no go). Anyways I would recommend anyone with bird temperament issues to private/direct message me (w/e format this forum uses.. hopefully I can help). I have had birds as pets sense I was 8 years old and now am hitting 30... (yes I am still young but have alot of experience under my belt.. Or so I like to think).

I share this story mainly because I know there is a parrot owner out there who is utterly confused of their new pet.. I made a basically wild Quaker come to cherish nothing more than to be with me. I may be a dude, but I'm the mama round these parts!

And to follow a cute picture of my spoiled baby, (she still quakes at 6+ years old at any morsel of food I am eating)

And just for good measure... I leave her cage door open at night (every night) and wake upto this....

I need not say she is loving :P. Each morning I get preened and given 1000+ kisses.

She's beautiful. That pic with her snuggling up to you is adorable!

I usually don't ask this question, because when you love your parrot, it doesn't matter, but does she talk? I've seen some talking Quakers on Youtube and they have such a unique tone and sound so cute!

Re: Wild to the sweetest thing in my life.

She most certainlly talks with me. She mumbles while I talk, Gives kisses, Says Hi, makes fart noises, Laughs just like me... which makes me laugh and she laughs more and I laugh more... never-ending.... she mimics the door opening (that paint sticking sound). But the best is durring the summer, when I have the window open and she tries to mimic the bird songs. I guess Quakers are known for mixing stuff up.. lol the morning bird songs would be all jumbled from her. The songs I never knew that I knew... which subconsciously i had memorized... She would twist up and it would keep me laughing for hours on end.

aw she is so cute. i dont think cooper was ever really "wild". from the first moment i held him(like 4 days old) he was sweet. im glad you could get Leda calmed down, it makes their lives so much better with the interaction they can get.
