I have finally ordered a blue quaker! Waiting for DNA tests for a male......so, a week for the test and then he gets shipped......YEAH!!! Now the questions start....He is weaned to seed, fruit and veggie diet.....that can change when he gets here to a pellet based diet....what's best for a quakers diet? How soon should I start working with him? I know most of this has been asked/answered here on the forum previously, so where would I find the information? I'm looking at a flight cage.... What size/type of perches? Best toy and play gyms? I plan on potty training also.....might need more advice as we gooooo......lol Any information is truly appreciated!!!! I'm soooo excited!!!!

WO-HOO!!!! I am SO excited with you!!!

That cage looks GREAT for a Quaker, Jo!! I would use different food cups, but that's just me. ;)

You can really deck out that cage with different perches and toys. :D

So excited with you! Quakers are awesome;)
I like the names Indigo and Sapphire, as well as mythic names like Nyx and Apollo:)
I have the cage you posted for some of my finches, my canaries, and Bourkes and It's a great cage. I do agree with Wendy about changing the dishes.

The bowls and perches from My Bird Store probably.....and toys will probably be as I admire the pet stores waiting for birdy to arrive.....keep me busy and hopefully out of trouble....

Exciting! Quakers are fun little guys :) Congrats! If he's still a baby, I'd keep him on the diet the breeder had him on for at least two months so he can get settled. Then you can talk to your vet or change his diet. In the wild, every time a baby bird gets scared, the momma bird feeds it for comfort, even if it's already weaned to adult food. Since he's getting shipped, I would keep him on a familiar diet for a few months to get him comfortable. :) Also, fruits and veggies are very good, so don't worry too much about the seeds, especially with a baby. Just like human babies drink a lot of milk, baby birds need a little extra fat in their diet anyway.

There's a thread somewhere that had pictures of people's cage set ups so you can have an idea of how other people's cages look. This really helped me when I did my bird's cage. You could try searching for it, but I don't know how. I got my caique a giant cage, but with Quakers I wouldn't recommend getting an overly big cage because they can be cage aggressive when they get older.

I hope this helps!! Congrats and I can't wait to see pics!!!
