Bit of history...

Almost 2 years ago we walked into a petco to buy dog and cat food. There in the middle of the rodent isle was a small brass colored cage with a very sad looking bird in it. We walked by and my daughter went to touch the cage and there was a hissing lunging green bird, promptly after the lunge was a human (bird mimic) laugh to follow. I thought how sad... thinking people teased this bird and when it went to bite, people would think it was funny and laughed.

Asked the Petco worker about her. They said she was about 7 years old and was left there by her past owner. The past owner said that she was kept in the cage because she was mean. They said she was a boy bird that laid eggs. Her name was Cracker and she was a minor plucker. Her adoption fee was $100 and it included her cage. I knew nothing about birds, but I knew I had always wanted one and I knew I could provide a better life for this little green thing. So I brought her home.

A week of having her home she broke her leg. She was not use to being out of her cage and had calcium deficiencies. The vet said that she broke her leg just outside her hip socket, so all we could do was medicate for pain and hope for the best.

Now She can be handled, scratched, and loved. Her leg has healed with full use. She purrs just like a cat when happy and makes random sounds, no talking. Overall such a wonderful bratty baby, as her bites from time to time do hurt!

At one time I do remember telling this story but I want to share the video. We had Ocha about 6 months at this point. Mu husband was napping on the couch and I had to run upstairs to the computer for a moment. Ocha was on her said in the living room. My moment on the computer took longer than expected when all of sudden I heard a human infant cry, we dont have a baby. lol. I raced downstairs and my husband jumped up from a dead sleep only to see that it was the bird making this sound. Scared the ____ outta us.
The second we were there she stopped. Since then if she wants attention she will cry, instantly stopping once someone enters the room she is in.

This is why I am trying to hide and get this video. I think maybe her past home had a baby and she noticed the baby would cry and people would race to it. So I guess this would be a "in context" cry.

Now that I have rambled here is a fun video that for your ears.

That is amazing! No wonder your came running. If you hadn't said that was your bird I would have sworn that was a baby.

That sounded exactly like a baby! I am so glad you brought her home and gave her a good life after what she had been through. Bless you for that:)

That is crazy and adorable!!!!!! I want a Quaker now! George used to punk me all the time by throwing his voice and sounding like my dog barking outside. I would run out to check on the dog...calling and calling...and then Chewie would come ambling out of the house, where he'd been happily napping before my yells. George would just laugh at us.

I actually had a 3.5 old baby at my house today. I have not a had a baby and Ocha in the house before. The real baby started to cry and Ocha joined right in while I was in the same room as Ocha. So crazy. This little green girl is amazing!

I'm happy everyone enjoyed!

Previous birds: 2 Quakers, 2 budgies, Nanday conure, Indian ringneck, 2 tiels, Red Lory, 300+ finches.
I had to stop playing it because my two quakers got very interested, and the last thing I need in the house are 2 crying babies :D
