Baby Quakers Not Eating

Okay, I need some help here... Long story short, I thought I had two male quakers that got along well... well I have 1 male and 1 female and I found this out because they had 5 eggs... woot woot.....

so all 5 eggs have hatched (their first cluch!) and only 2 remain alive now, I let her take care of the others because I know it is hard to take care of new, tiny, baby birds but with these last two I wanted to give it a shot...

Well, they are TINY and I am using an eye dropper to try and get them to eat and it isnt working out so well. I am having to use the edge of the dropper and gently forcing them to open their mouth so I can get the formula in them. AKA they are not activelly eating and I am at a loss at what to do. I really dont have high hopes that they are going to live but I really want to try everything I can to try and save them.

Anyone have any tips? Anything would be appreciated. I need all the help I can get.

Hello and Welcome to the Forum. I wish you the best of luck with your two little guys. We have members who have far more experience with hand feeding than I do, so I'll let them answer, but I wish you the best. Can you tell us exactly how old the chicks are?

Honestly I cannot because they did not all hatch at the same time (duh... lol) and she has been sitting on them constantly and not letting me get near her or them the whole time. However, it is obvious that they are two totally different ages because of their size, one is probably twice the size as the other one.... but they are both still flopping around like rag dolls, it is so nerve racking at times!

Giving my it my best guess I would say that both babys are less that 7 days old with 2 days between them.

Well, I just got home from work and my littlest one has died.

As bad as it sounds I did expect this just because he was so little.

However on a good note, the oldest one ate pretty well for me. He (or she...) happy took about 1/2 an eye dropper full, which filled his crop as much I would want it filled, and filled him up since he didn't act like he wanted more.

I know he is not out of the woods yet, so even though it looks like he is eating better, any advice is still wanted/needed/appreciated!

Thank you all!

So many things,,, buy the book. "Parrots, handfeeding and nursery management" by Howard Voren and Rick Jordan. You can find it used on amazon.com pretty cheap. I wouldn't know where to began with asking question about how your feeding them and your experience level. get the book, it's the "Bible".

I assume you have a brooder and are warming formula to 105F. Weighing them every AM and offering pedalite. i don't view this section much, if you need to contact me ask the mods who are online to do it for you. Get your 20 post (welcome some new members) and PM me.
