Best Treats?

I've tried searching some sites to find what Quakers like as treats and have not had good results. All I can seem to learn is fresh fruit and veg and sunflower seeds occasionally due to the fat content. I've tried a few things but all I can get her to eat is a little bit of cherries.(she eats her seed and pellets just fine). Just curious as to what your birds enjoy.
Thanks, jaymaj

Auggie: Dusky Conure
Also something that must be kept in moderation, but Auggie is a dairy junky. he goes crazy if he sees milk or cheese, he LOVES them.

They are actually healthy in moderation - a good source of calcium, as well as a good balance of protein and fats (which are needed). But birds can't digest the lactose, so too much can really upset their stomach, cheese has less lactose than milk. Also too much fat is, of course, to be avoided.

Every bird is an individual, you just have to keep trying new things to discover what she likes.

Quaker parrot, Ralph
I'm having a similar experience introducing new foods to my almost-8-month-old Quaker parrot Ralph. He's a little reluctant to accept unfamiliar things as actually being food, and, since he is a Quaker, he tends to be a little stubborn about it. So you do have to be persistent, even to the point of offering previously rejected foods over and over again. Try feeding the fruits and vegetables in different forms, both raw and cooked. Ralph likes a lot of things if they're finely chopped, but won't touch a larger piece of the same food (apple and banana, for example).

A lot of parrots like air-popped popcorn (without oil, butter or salt). Different types of nuts can be given as an occasional treat too (they're another high-fat food and shouldn't be fed too often). Ralph likes a little bit of cheese too, the same extra-sharp Cheddar I eat. He's also very fond of cinnamon toast; cinnamon is good for birds, and if the toast is whole-grain rather than white bread, it's more nutritious. I have no problem with giving a parrot a few treats that are just fun for them to eat-- things like a very small morsel of vanilla cake or oatmeal cookie. As long as the parrot has a basic diet that is nutritious, and the bird is in good health, that kind of treat in moderation shouldn't do any harm (the key is to feed only small amounts and not too often). I had a happy, healthy Amazon parrot who enjoyed that sort of treats and he lived to a ripe old age.

Rosie has fallen in love with the sweet tater french fries. They are actually baked. She leaves no crumbs which in itself is amazing. Her second love is cheese.

Mishka loves plain popcorn, if I want her do ANYTHING I offer her popcorn.
She eats anything and everything, not fussy at all, guess I am lucky.

Max would wash my car if I paid him with walnuts and Cream of Wheat. He gets CoW more often in the winter, but Nuts of Wal are year-round.

Jade likes pepitas (shelled pumpkin seeds) and almonds, both raw with no salt, of course. She also likes canteloupe, but she hasn't really picked a favorite yet.

You'll just have to find that one thing...

WoW HRD Di, wish you lived close by, I would spoil Max every day, with Walnuts AND Jade with papitas, and almonds.

I run a business from home selling dried fruit and nuts.

Mishka gets 5 different nuts per day, her favorite is Pecan, cashew plain, Almonds and raw peanuts, AND she dislikes Walnuts LoL.

Adrian, my EGC, loves apricot nectar. Also fresh leaf lettuce. And a dab of fresh peanut butter(like the kind that you get from the grinder in the grocery store) equals instant birdgasm.
