Hey guys, I've had Dokey for 4 years now, he talks, we play together, he's completely confident with me, he lets me touch him wherever. He loves playing with me.

But he is scared of everything...from a keychain to a chair. I've seen people's parrots sit on the backs of chairs and playing with cups and stuff, but Dokey won't even go close to anything. If he sees anyone moving a big object, such as a chair, in the same room as his cage, he gets really scared and starts making loud, weird noises.

Can anybody help me with this please?

Hello,

Pablo, who is also a Quaker's parrot, does this too. If he sees anything new, like someone he doesn't know, he'll go all thin and start 'growling' at it/them.

I found that the only way to make him stop was to get him used to it over time. When I got a new chair, he was very scared of it. Now he doesn't bat an eye at it. Same with a scroll we hung up. Though some things he'll never get used to, like the stick that we put in the window to secure it (that will always remain his worst nightmare). I'd say this is because it looks like a snake, or something that can harm him. It's just instinct that helps animals survive in the wild. Also, if you're moving something big, he might not realize you're moving it, and think it's some strange animal out to get him.

Or maybe it's just Dokey's personality. So yeah, this is perfectly normal. If he's scared of something, he should get used to it over time, but some things will always remain scary.
