Hello everyone. My family bought a parrotlet last weekend, that didn't work out so well. he would bite us a lot. So we figured it was just him getting used to us, we tried and tried to get him to stop but he wouldn't. i have a 18month old in the house and don't want him bit. So we brought him back to the store and swap him, but the lady said they didn't have anymore or wasn't getting anymore bc the ones left after we bought him killed another male in the cage......so long story short we got a quaker instead, he/she is 8 wks old now. he is much nicer....lol. my question is why isn't he banded? Aren't they all supposed to be banded? I didn't notice it until we got home......

Welcome and congrats on your new baby. Quakers are great birds. Some breeders use bands and some don't. It is a preference and not necessary.

It depends on the state, some require a band on any bird conure-size and larger but some don't. In any case, an 8 week old baby will never bite but adult quakers are very nippy birds so he might not work out in a house with a baby, either. Also, you are aware that you still need to supplement his feeding, don't you? He is too young to be all on its own.

thank you for the input guys! Yes we are feeding him by hand still 2x's a day. he still eats seeds and stuff too. I will check in on getting him a band.
