Im getting a Quaker

I have found a local pet store (not a chain) that has a baby hand fed Quaker for sale, I went and put a deposit down on it today. I have spent time with it a few different times over the past week and decided I would go with this one.
I am so excited, but I have so many things to learn! He won't be ready for a little while, and I have to finish paying for him also.

I tried joining Quakerparrots.com, and I am unable to get the validation to go to my email address. I have tried emailing the lady that it says to email with out any success either. Is anyone here a member on QP.com? If so, Is there any way someone could send a message for me to her? I really want to be a member, and this is getting very frustrating. My screen name is the same.

I hope to read thru all the older posts to gain some knowledge also.
Thanks for reading!

Congratulations on getting a new Quaker parrot! I've had my Quaker, Ralph, for almost four months now, and it's been great. Life is never dull when there's a QP around!

Congratulations! Quakers are one of my favorite species and they hold a very dear spot in my heart because I grew up with huge flocks of them flying right over my house (I also had a couple as pets when I was young that I handraised myself).

I currently have five: Rhonda, Mr. Quakie, Helen, Cato and Olive. Helen and Cato were called Hell and Chaos and that should tell you what the previous owner thought of them; Rhonda was thought to be a very mean male, poor little Olive was terrified of people, and Mr. Quakie did not eat anything but seeds and had big deposits of fat on his chest. All five were given up because of aggression issues but they are OK now (well, except during breeding season when they get a bit stupid about things). It's very common for quakers to become mean and/or noisy and/or pluckers as they get older but this is because people think they are tropical birds and do not keep them to a solar schedule which is IMPERATIVE with them because they come from a temperate climate and, as such, they NEED to follow the seasons. Failure to do this will result in a bird that, over time, will become sexually frustrated (long days all year round will make them produce sexual hormones all year round) and this could mean loud and constant screaming, aggression, plucking and self-mutilation. So, please, I beg you, make sure your bird follows a strict natural daylight schedule all year round with full exposure to dawn and dusk.

Aside from this, they are smart, wily, affectionate, good talkers, excellent eaters and bathers and quite hardy little birds so what is there not to like? :)

Thank you everyone for all your warm welcomes and congratulations!!
I am very excited. It will be about another two weeks before I get to bring him home, but I hope to learn as much as I can and have his cage ready for him when he gets here. I am also going to build him a play gym, so that will keep me occupied in the mean time!:D
I haven't thought of any names yet. I think I will wait and let my kids help decide on a name for him.
I will definitely post pictures once he is home with us though, don't worry!!
Thanks again for everyone's posts, and keep the advice coming...I love reading it!!
