Hi There. I am quite concerned about my quaker parakeet, I have had her just over 5 yrs, and she has never laid an egg, but my concern is that, within the last week it has laid 2 eggs within 3 days, I dont know what to do with the eggs as they are infertile with charlie not having a male partner, what should I do with the egs? thank youy kindly in advance. Hello and Welcome to the forum!

It's not that uncommon for females without mates to lay a clutch of infertile eggs. If you remove the eggs, Charlie may keep producing eggs to replace them. Instead of removing the eggs and tossing them, it's better to replace them with artificial eggs, you could also boil the eggs and put them back for her. The idea is to let Charlie keep her eggs until she has lost interest, from four to six weeks is usually long enough. You can put the eggs in a small bowl or basket for her. Quakers usually lay an egg every other day until they have five to seven eggs but the number may vary.

Be sure to provide a good diet while Charlie is laying. You can add clean, crushed egg shells and lots of veggies to help keep her healthy while she's producing eggs.

Thank you for your advice, it was extremely helpful, she has now laid 3 eggs, but I think she has adopted the notion that they will be infertile, so she's abandoned them (relief). I was thinking of buying her a mate, would she abandon eggs if she laid next time, just through to the experience she has been through this time, I am entirely grateful for your time and attention with regards to this matter, Thank you kindly. I'm happy to hear Charlie has stopped laying. I know it sounds like a good idea to provide a mate for your quaker, but it's impossible to predict how two birds will feel about each other. It's not likely they would become a bonded pair and if they did, Charlie would probably not be the same affectionate pet she is now. Breeding brings a whole new set of challenges.
