It was a little bittersweet watching him with his new Daddy, but I know I did the right thing for him and Zilla.

Zilla still hated him with a passion! She wanted nothing to do with him except to maybe rip his face off. There was no way they would have ever been able to be out at the same time, even across the room, it wouldn't have been safe for either of them. So neither of them were getting the amount of time out they deserve.

He was soooooo super sweet for this guy though! I'm still amazed thinking about how nice he was and how sweetly he did everything that was asked of him (as long as it was Brian doing the asking) He stepped up (like almost leaped onto Brian's hand before he was even asked) he let Brian scratch his head and get a couple pinnies for him. He was jabbering up a storm and just seemed so sweet! The little devil bird was gone!

I did tell him if it doesn't work out down the road to please contact me and I will take him back, but from what I saw Kick and he were already starting to bond. Brian does have experience with Quakers in the past, but doesn't have one now (well now he has Kick) He has a cage just 1 size smaller than Zilla's, so a complete mansion for a Quaker! And I sent his favorite toys and perches with him so he will have something familiar. Sent a list of food likes and dislikes and some of the seed mix I have been giving in the afternoons and a bag of the chop mix I have been feeding.

I know it was the right thing to do, but I still feel bad I just couldn't make it work. I'm trying to tell myself I was just his foster home until he could find his forever home, and that helps a bit.

Sounds like Kick found someone great.

You did great by him. You took him in when he needed someone and took great care of him. I know you hoped he could stay and all would be great, but this was not a planned bird so don't kick yourself. (pardon the pun)

Amanda, you did a lot for Kick, who knows what would have happened to him had you not found him. And now you've helped him find a new friend and a home of his own, that's not a small thing. Zilla has seniority and Kick has a new buddy. I think it worked out wonderfully.

Giving them up is so much harder than keeping them, it is the whole reason I can't foster or rescue/re-home. I could never give them up. You made a hard choice, but one that was in Kick's best interest. I'm sure if he had not responded as well to his prospective new paront, you wouldn't have let him go. Hopefully the new owner will send you updates and pictures.

I keep telling myself I did the right thing, and he will be happier.

He was not an "expected" bird, I didn't go looking for him and buy him or adopt him, he was found after his previous owners tossed him outside. Hence the name Kick, short for Kicked Out!

I really had hoped he and Zilla would come to at least tolerate each other, but neither of them wanted anything to do with the other (except the occasional screaming match, which Zilla always won) If they had even hinted that they might be coming to terms I would have kept him longer and learned to deal with getting bitten several times a day (bites are a part of having parrots in our lives right?)

I did have help from The Bird Hut in finding him his new home. 4 people met him, but I could tell the first 3 just didn't "click" but this 4th one did.

I think he is going to be happy and spoiled in his new home, and I'm sure I will get updates, maybe even get to visit since he isn't too far from me.

And on another note, I am taking Zilla to The Bird Hut Monday to meet a little Red Lored Amazon hen who is about 8 years old. She is very shy, so I'm hoping Zilla and her will like each other since Zilla is really shy too. Zilla seems to like birds her own size or larger and this one is just a bit bigger. Every time we go there she tries her darndest to make friends with the 20 year old Scarlet Mac named Clementine. I keep telling her Mommies bank account and our apartment neither one is big enough to bring Clementine home! Not that I wouldn't love to have her, she is super sweet and one of my dream parrots! :D But we have to be more realistic in our search for the perfect parrot to join our flock!

Lovely to hear that he found a great home :) . I love hearing about these stories and how he will be hopefully loved with the affection a bird deserve. Don't feel bad about letting him go as you did the best thing you could for him. Thanks for letting us know and i hope Zilla is well. :D

Thanks William! I know I did the right thing for him, it's still tough though.

Zilla is still the most awesome Orange Wing Amazon I know...oh wait she's the only one I know! :D

Seriously, she is great, and seems to be happy the little "s**t" is gone! She has chattered to the radio all day and hug out with me in my office for a nap on my shoulder.

The hardest part is letting them go~ but in some cases, it's the best thing to do. I'm sure Kick was grateful for everything you did for him, including loving him when he wasn't wanted. I hope he thrives in his new home with Brian [emoji4]

I think you did the right thing in your situation Amanda. You did your best to see if it would work (unexpected bird and all). I'm so glad for you and Kick that he found Brian :). That's a happy thing to hear!

Good luck with the Red Lored (ooh I think RLA are so pretty!)... Maybe Zilla would prefer another female closer to her own species.

Thanks Julie! It really means a lot that you all understand, he just wasn't happy here, and neither was Zilla with him as her neighbor! I'm glad he found his way to me and I could help him, at least I know I saved him from being some cat's lunch! (he has absolutely NO fear of cats and my cats are 18 & 23 pounds!)

I hope Zilla "clicks" with the RLA like she did with Bean (remember the YNA I almost got a few months back) They got along great every time I took Zilla to visit. :D
